Job summary

GDIT is seeking a Backend API Developer to build and operate the service layer behind an operator application in a cyber command center. The role focuses on low-latency delivery, correct behavior under load, and strict entitlement enforcement, with on-site work in the DC metro area.

Responsibilities include designing and deploying independently operable services, maintaining contracts, interfaces, and versioning, plus testing and monitoring in containerized environments.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of related experience in backend services.
• BS in computer science or engineering required.
• US citizenship required for this role.
• On-site work in the Washington, D.C. metro area (not remote or hybrid).

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and operate production service interfaces at scale.
• Integrate with upstream services and maintain derived state.
• Deliver real-time updates via server-sent events and WebSocket streams.
• Enforce server-side authorization and content filtering with audit logs.
• Implement event-triggered functions and integrate with messaging services.
• Ensure low-latency, high-throughput performance and monitor incidents.
