Job summary

National Housing Trust in Washington, DC is seeking a Senior Development and Property Accountant to manage full-cycle real estate and project accounting for a portfolio of affordable housing properties. You will prepare journal entries, coordinate with property managers, lenders, and auditors, and ensure GAAP compliance.

This DC-based role offers a hybrid schedule (two days per week at the office) with opportunities to contribute to budgeting, asset management, and annual audits while supporting

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
• CPA or CMA license preferred. Five years of progressive experience in Accounting or Finance; with a strong preference for specialized experience in real estate, multi-family development, property management, affordable housing and LIHTC.
• Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines.
• Proficiency with accounting software.
• Proficiency with all MS Office software including advanced Excel capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Perform full-cycle real-estate accounting and project accounting for an assigned portfolio of properties.
• Oversee third-party property manager accountants’ monthly financial preparation and reconciliation issues.
• Track GP/LP interests and related fees, funds, and reporting.
• Monitor intercompany accounting and reconciliations.
• Review monthly variance analysis and collaborate with asset management.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and yearly financial statements.
