Patton State Hospital, Human Resources Department, is accepting applications for at least one (1) Permanent, Full-Time appointment to the Senior Radiologic Technologist classification for the Medical Services Department in the Radiology Clinic. This position is under the direction of the Chief of Primary Care Services, Chief Physician and Surgeon, Medical Services Administrator, and Supervising Registered Nurse.

The incumbent will provide ongoing radiology services to forensic patients at Patton State Hospital. These duties include performing routine and emergency radiographic examinations: selects appropriate techniques to obtain optimal image quality: evaluates images to determine whether additional or repeated imaging is necessary: recognizing patient conditions requiring physician notification: and may plan, direct, and oversee the work of other radiologic technologists.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Scheduling and completing radiologic examinations.
• Ensuring the care and safety of patients throughout each examination, including monitoring and responding appropriately to patient reactions.
• Maintaining the security and operational readiness of the radiology area and equipment.
• Promoting the safety of escorts, coworkers, and others working within the department.
• Overseeing the daily operations of the Radiology Department.
• Maintaining equipment, inventory, and adequate supplies, including ordering, storing, and dispensing supplies.
• Ensuring compliance with standards established by the Department of State Hospitals – Patton Department of Medicine, The California Department of Public Health’s Radiologic Health Branch, and the Joint Commission.
• Collaborating with other Clinical Management Services departments, the Admission Suite, and Loma Linda University Health-Palm Imaging to provide timely and efficient radiographic services.

Must possess and maintain valid certification as a Radiologic Technologist in diagnostic radiology issued by the California Department of Public Health – Radiologic Health Branch.

Working Conditions

Patton is a forensic psychiatric hospital and was established in 1890 and opened in 1893. DSH-Patton provides treatment to forensically and civilly committed patients within a secure treatment area. The hospital does not accept voluntary admissions.

Minimum Requirements

• Background Investigation be cleared prior to being hired.
• Medical Clearance prior to being hired.
• Radiologic Technologist Certificate License required. Must provide a copy prior to being hired.

Desirable Qualifications

• Strong working knowledge of radiologic imaging systems and regulatory requirements
• Prior supervisory or lead technologist experience in a clinical or forensic healthcare setting
• Demonstrated ability to perform equipment troubleshooting and coordinate vendor servicing
• Experience training and mentoring radiologic staff
• Excellent communication, problem-solving, and time-management skills
• Familiarity with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) compliance and secure handling of protected health information
