Job summary

Boston Children's Hospital is seeking a Diagnostic Radiology Technologist responsible for performing complex imaging examinations while ensuring patient safety and compliance with hospital standards. The role includes training, mentoring, and participating in departmental initiatives.

  • Current MA Radiologic Technologist license.
  • Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • BLS Certification required.

Job description

Position Summary

Performs routine and the more complex imaging examinations in Diagnostic Radiology on a scheduled and emergency basis following departmental QC/Exam Data Integrity Workflow Expectations. Actively participates in training of clinical staff. Acts as a mentor to less experienced staff. Participates in operational duties assigned by and under the direction of the manager.

Key Responsibilities
  • Examinations/Procedures
    • Performs the more complex imaging examinations while providing a safe environment for patients.
    • Reviews and evaluates requisitions for Diagnostic imaging procedures, abstracting data from patient charts and determining appropriateness of procedure prescribed given diagnosis and clinical signs for routine examinations.
    • Identify patients according to Hospital Policy with 2 identifiers.
    • Selects appropriate equipment and technical factors to identify pathologic and normal anatomy.
    • Assesses patients' and parents' physical and emotional status and ability to respond to instructions and develop a care plan for that patients' specific needs.
    • Explain the examination and is able to answer questions from patient and parents regarding the exam and Radiation exposure, practices ALARA.
    • Follows Departmental QC/Data Integrity Workflow.
    • Practices High Reliability Training
  • Patient/Family Relations
    • Responds to the uniqueness of the patient, creating a supportive environment for the patient and the family
  • Equipment
    • Identifies and reports equipment malfunctions through the INeedit application.
  • Operations
    • Assists in organizing and maintaining daily operations.
    • Performs additional tasks as assigned by the Modality Manager, Chief Technologist or Assistant Chief Technologist i.e., such as ordering supplies, QA/QC projects, lead inventory, etc.
  • Leadership
    • Helps with new departmental /hospital initiatives.
    • Promotes positive morale, teamwork, and willingness to make a significant contribution.
  • Training
    • Trains fellows, residents, students and staff in imaging procedures and techniques.
    • Acts as a mentor to less experienced staff
  • General
    • Participates in departmental and hospital meetings.
    • Completes all required documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
    • Complies with ETU.
    • Complies with HIPAA regulations.

  • Professional Development
    • Furthers professional education and maintains knowledge of current regulations and standards, policies and procedures.
    • Maintains up-to-date licensure/certification/registration in departmental file.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
  • Associates degree in Allied Health, Bachelors preferred
Experience
  • 3 years of experience in Diagnostic Radiology
Licensure / Certifications
  • Current MA Radiologic Technologist
  • Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
  • BLS Certification

The posted pay range is Boston Children's reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting.
