Job summary

Florida Forest Service is seeking a Telecommunications Specialist III to install, maintain, and manage the statewide communications system. Responsibilities include maintaining 2-way radios, base stations, repeaters, antennas, and related equipment while ensuring FCC compliance and coordinating with partner agencies.

The role requires a high school diploma with telecom/tech experience or a relevant bachelor's degree; a valid Class E driver license is required, and occasional travel may be needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with 4 years of telecom/data processing/electronics/engineering experience, 2 years in telecom.
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, MIS or electronic engineering can substitute for experience.
• Education substitutions allowed (hours/years) and vendor programs may substitute for experience.

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain and manage the Forest Service's statewide communications system.
• Maintain 2-way radios, repeaters, base stations, antennas and related equipment.
• Perform preventative maintenance and repairs; troubleshoot and diagnose system problems.
• Install data/telecommunication cabling and related devices; assist with network equipment.
• Ensure radio communications comply with FCC rules and Regulations and coordinate with partner agencies.
