Job description

Mainspring Energy is revolutionizing power generation with the world’s most flexible and adaptable local power generation technology, the Mainspring Linear Generator. Commercial, industrial, and utility leaders are choosing Mainspring over traditional options like engines, turbines, and fuel cells to quickly and reliably deliver local power for EV charging, commercial facilities, data centers, and grid-scale operations.

The Mainspring Linear Generator is fuel flexible, ramps up and down to meet demand, and utilizes a flameless reaction with near‑zero NOx emissions. Backed by top‑tier investors including Khosla Ventures, Bill Gates, American Electric Power, Lightrock, and General Catalyst, Mainspring designs, manufactures, and delivers its products to customers across the U.S. and is scaling rapidly for international expansion.

We welcome a broad range of backgrounds, experiences, and talents to bring fresh perspectives and ongoing innovation to our customers.

Our Values

Pragmatic Optimism. Building a new category of world‑class power generation requires ambition and creativity, balanced with practicality to solve problems efficiently. The challenges that arise are opportunities for growth.

Excellence without Ego. We bring expertise and commitment to creating the best customer experience, from sales to deployment and service, and apply deep technical rigor to building world‑class products. We strive for excellence and act as leaders with the humility to acknowledge our challenges.

Proactive Collaboration. The integration and cross‑disciplinary nature of Mainspring’s business requires seeking others who bring different skills, perspectives, and priorities. Our culture of inclusion and respect extends beyond our team to partners and customers.

Job Overview

We are seeking enthusiastic and resourceful individuals with a strong mechanical background to join our growing Research & Development team as R&D Technicians. In this role, you will be instrumental in the development of our innovative generator technology, working closely with our talented engineering team at our dedicated R&D Center of Excellence in Menlo Park. You will experiment, build prototypes, and contribute directly to bringing affordable, dispatchable, and clean energy to the world. Our facility emphasizes ergonomics, safety, and a supportive work environment, with at least 30% of your time spent in comfortable indoor settings. We offer full benefits, including vacation and sick time, 401(k), and pre‑IPO stock options.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of 6 years of hands‑on experience with mechanical assembly and/or repair.
  • Experience with automotive or heavy equipment assembly is a plus.
  • Proven ability to learn quickly, a strong sense of self‑motivation, and a demonstrated commitment to safety.
  • Experience with precision measuring instruments capable of measurements down to .001", using tools such as micrometers, bore gauges, and gauge blocks.
  • Metal fabrication skills are considered a plus.
  • Possession of a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) from California is a plus.
