Descripción de la vacante

Infleqtion, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled experimental physicist to advance neutral-atom quantum computing hardware and related subsystems.

The role emphasizes hands-on design, calibration, and operation of complex AMO/quantum-control experiments, with a focus on laser systems and precision measurements. You will lead significant R&D projects, develop Python tools for automation and data analysis, and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams while mentoring junior staff.

Formación

  • PhD in atomic, optical, AMO, quantum physics or related field with 2+ years post-PhD experience or equivalent.
  • Hands-on experience designing and operating complex AMO/quantum-control experiments.
  • Experience applying quantitative models to design or specify laser, optical, RF or control systems.
  • Experience with lasers, optical systems, and related technologies (AOM/EO modulators, RF instrumentation, imaging, UHV).
  • Python used for experiment control, data analysis, automation, or hardware integration.

Responsabilidades

  • Design, integrate, calibrate, and improve neutral-atom quantum computing systems and subsystems.
  • Lead R&D projects involving quantum hardware, laser systems, calibration, or system integration.
  • Translate goals into technical requirements and measurable performance targets.
  • Design experiments and models to identify performance limits and guide decisions.
  • Own critical systems through development, validation, and routine operation.
  • Develop Python-based tools for experiment control and data analysis.
  • Collaborate across physics, software, electrical, mechanical, and systems teams.
  • Mentor junior team members and contribute to technical reviews.

Descripción del empleo

Infleqtion is on a mission to commercialize atom-based quantum technologies that deliver orders-of-magnitude improvements in sensing and computing applications. As a deep-tech startup, we embrace a results-driven, fast-paced, and customer-focused approach to innovation. We are seeking self-motivated, energetic individuals with exceptional problem-solving and technical skills to help drive our Quantum Computing mission forward. We encourage applications from experimental physicists with expertise in Atomic, Molecular, and Optical (AMO) physics, particularly those with experience in the coherent control of quantum systems such as ultracold atoms, trapped ions, and diamond NV centers.

Role and Responsibilities
  • Design, integrate, calibrate, operate, and improve neutral-atom quantum computing systems and critical subsystems.
  • Lead R&D projects involving quantum processor hardware, quantum-gate protocols, laser and optical systems, calibration, control, or system integration.
  • Translate program goals into technical requirements, experimental plans, and measurable performance targets.
  • Design and analyze experiments and physics-based models to identify performance limitations and guide technical decisions.
  • Independently own critical systems through development, validation, troubleshooting, reliability improvement, and routine operation.
  • Develop Python-based tools for experiment control, data analysis, calibration, automation, and hardware integration.
  • Collaborate across physics, software, electrical, mechanical, and systems-engineering teams.
  • Mentor junior team members and interns and contribute to technical reviews and team best practices.
Requirements
  • PhD in atomic, optical, AMO, quantum physics, or a related field plus at least two years of relevant post-PhD experience, or comparable professional experience developing complex experimental systems.
  • Hands-on experience designing, building, and operating complex AMO, quantum-control, or precision-measurement experiments.
  • Experience applying quantitative atomic or optical physics models to experimental design or to the specification of laser, optical, RF, or control systems.
  • Hands-on experience with lasers and optical systems, together with related technologies such as acousto-optic or electro-optic modulators, RF instrumentation, imaging systems, or ultra-high-vacuum equipment.
  • Experience using Python for experiment control, data analysis, automation, or hardware integration.
  • Evidence of independently leading a substantial experimental project or owning a critical technical subsystem.
It is a plus if you have:
  • Experience with neutral-atom quantum computing, Rydberg physics, optical-tweezer arrays, or quantum-gate characterization.
  • Experience with advanced laser systems, optical beam delivery, high-NA imaging, beam shaping, or optical projection.
  • Experience characterizing and mitigating laser-frequency, phase, pointing, or intensity noise.
  • Experience with analog electronics, RF systems, or feedback control.
  • Experience integrating optical, electronic, vacuum, control, and software subsystems.
  • Experience developing automated calibration, health-monitoring, or experimental test infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with Linux, Git, command-line tools, and collaborative software-development practices.

If you do not meet the qualifications for this role, consider applying to our intermediate-level position (Quantum Physicist)
