Job summary

Shearer89s Foods seeks a Manager of Quality & Food Safety for its Phoenix, AZ facility. You will lead quality assurance, food safety programs, and regulatory compliance, guiding a team of four while coordinating with customers, suppliers, and corporate quality.

The role reports to the Plant Director and drives end-to-end quality systems. The position requires a Bachelor in a science field, 10+ years in QA/sanitation and 5+ years in a supervisory role, plus PCQI and SQF certifications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in Food Science, Animal Science, Microbiology, Biology or other science field.
• 10+ years in Quality Assurance, Food Safety, and Sanitation.
• 5+ years in a supervisory/management role at a similarly complex plant.
• Certifications: PCQI, SQF Practitioner (or other GFSI), HACCP.
• Strong knowledge of FSMA, FDA and global food safety standards.
• Experience leading change and coaching staff.

Responsibilities

• Lead the site’s Quality and Food Safety Systems (SQF, Food Safety Plan, GMPs, SOPs).
• Maintain knowledge of products, raw materials, packaging and specs.
• Monitor and enforce all food safety processes and customer standards.
• Serve as SQF Practitioner and PCQI; participate in weekly inspections.
• Identify, assess and mitigate risks as a core Food Safety Team member.
• Investigate customer complaints and drive corrective actions.
• Ensure audit readiness and hygienic design across the facility.
• Develop data-driven insights (SPC, trend analysis, defect tracking).
• Set quality objectives aligned with plant and corporate goals.
• Lead structured problem-solving and continuous improvement.
• Foster ownership culture; embed quality at the source.
• Deliver training linking frontline work to customer impact.
