Job summary

Giga Energy in Houston seeks a Quality Lead responsible for end-to-end transformer quality, building and maintaining the ISO 9001 system, and directing IQC, IPQC, FAT, and OQC inspections to IEEE, ANSI, and UL standards.

You will manage supplier quality, lead plant quality technicians, drive Lean/Six Sigma improvements, and monitor KPIs such as first-pass yield. This role is office-based with on-site expectations and occasional WFH Fridays.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical / Electrical / Industrial Engineering, or related field.
• 6+ years of transformer industry experience.
• Strong understanding of transformer manufacturing processes and material specs.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, with ability to manage multiple projects.

Responsibilities

• Own transformer quality end-to-end at the Houston factory, overseeing ISO 9001 and IQC/IPQC/OQC inspections.
• Lead plant quality technicians and manage NCR/FAI documentation, root-cause defects (8D, 5 Whys).
• Drive Lean/Six Sigma improvements and track KPIs such as FPY and first-pass yield.
• Manage supplier quality with audits, SCARs, qualifications, and vendor improvements.
• Represent quality during FAT witnessing and on-site customer interactions.

What you’ll do

You will own transformer quality end-to-end at the Houston factory: building and running the ISO 9001 quality system, and personally executing IQC, IPQC, FAT, and OQC inspections against IEEE, ANSI, and UL standards. You’ll manage supplier quality — qualifications, audits, and SCARs — while leading plant quality technicians and handling NCR/FAI documentation. You’ll also be responsible for root-causing defects (8D, 5 Whys), driving Lean/Six Sigma improvements, tracking KPIs like first-pass yield, and representing quality with customers during complaints and on-site FAT witnessing.

Where you’ll work

We are an in-office culture — velocity matters when you’re building physical infrastructure, and the best decisions happen in the room. This role is ideally based in our Houston office, with full-time onsite expectations outside of bi-weekly WFH Fridays.

Responsibilities

1. Quality Systems & Documentation

• Execute the QMS across the product lifecycle (ISO 9001) and update as required
• Set up and run quality gate architecture — IQC, IPQC, FAT, and OQC — for all transformers,
• Create and process FAI, NCR, and SCAR documentation
• Support vendor qualifications, audits, and close loop communications to enhance vendor service levels
• Maintain calibration records, control plans, and inspection standard work for all production processes

1. Product & Process Quality

• Ensure compliance with transformer standards such as IEEE, ANSI, and UL
• Perform and sign off Incoming Quality Control (IQC), In-Process Quality Control (IPQC), and Outgoing Quality Control (OQC) inspections
• Plan and execute Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), including AQL-based sampling plans and hands‑on test witnessing
• Write and execute test protocols (routine, type, and special tests for transformers and switchboards)
• Lead and collaborate with Quality Technicians at the plant to ensure product quality

1. Supplier Quality Management

• Run supplier qualification and evaluation processes
• Conduct supplier audits and drive corrective actions (SCAR) to closure
• Inspect incoming materials and sub‑assemblies against spec at IQC
• Collaborate with supply chain and procurement to drive vendor improvements

1. Inspection Execution & Problem Resolution

• Execute inspections and tests directly on the floor across IQC/IPQC/FAT/OQC
• Investigate quality issues at the point of occurrence and write up NCRs
• Work directly with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain to close out non‑conformances

1. Continuous Improvement

• Perform root cause analysis using tools (8D, Fishbone, 5 Whys)
• Execute Lean/Six Sigma initiatives to reduce defects and waste
• Track and report KPIs (ie. defects, rework, customer complaints, FPY, FAT first-pass yield)

1. Customer & Compliance

• Handle customer complaints and warranty claims
• Ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations
• Represent Quality on‑site during FAT witnessing, audits, and site acceptance

Requirements

• Degree in Mechanical / Electrical / Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
• 6+ years of experience in the Transformer Industry.
• Strong understanding of transformer manufacturing processes and material specs.
• Good communication skill, with ability to convey technical information clearly.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects effectively.
• Proven ability to manage cross-border engineering and production teams.
