Job summary

The Boyd Quality Engineer ensures our products meet customer expectations by owning the quality program across System Cooling Products. You will lead investigations, CAPA actions, and supplier improvements while working with cross-functional teams to prevent defects.

You will define shop-floor quality requirements, perform data-driven analysis with tools like Minitab, and mentor others in 8D and DMAIC methods.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in the appropriate discipline or 8 years of relevant experience.
  • 3 years of relevant experience; in absence of a degree, 8 years of relevant experience required.
  • Experience with machining, welding, brazing, assembly-based manufacturing, lean, Six Sigma and 6S.
  • Experience operating in an ISO9001 quality environment; AS9100 a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to work with suppliers and internal customers.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multiple projects with stakeholders across functions.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills.
  • Familiarity with root cause tools such as 5-Why, Fishbone Diagram, etc.
  • Core skills/tools: MS Office, 8D, GD&T, Six Sigma, Minitab, SPC, FMEA.
  • Experience with statistical methods and applications; capability studies, Gage R&R, X-bar & R charts a plus.
  • Experience with brazing, plumbing, pumps, refrigeration, and troubleshooting electro-mechanical parts desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Lead quality and reliability issues for Boyd's System Cooling Products line.
  • Establish and implement processes to address customer quality issues promptly.
  • Define quality requirements at shop floor level and drive improvement with management.
  • Ensure timely processing of non-conformances from incoming or in-process inspections.
  • Identify and eliminate cost of quality drivers including scrap and rework.
  • Communicate directly with shop floor work cells to improve quality.
  • Partner with service team for failure analysis, data collection, and reducing failure modes.
  • Drive CAPA related to product quality across the organization; address findings quickly.
  • Lead audits of processes and quality systems; present data monthly to Quality Manager.
  • Participate in development of customer prototypes to meet quality requirements.
  • Mentor the organization in advanced problem-solving techniques (8D, 5Why, DMAIC).
  • Define inspection processes, requirements, frequency, and sampling, including sub-tier scope.
  • Drive improvements with key suppliers to ensure high-quality incoming materials.
  • Support customers in different time zones as needed.
  • Willing to travel up to 10% domestically and internationally when required.
  • Advocate lean and 6S principles.
  • As part of Boyd team, perform additional duties as required.
