Senior Software Engineer – Python | Capital Markets

Location: New York, NY

Compensation: Up to $350,000 Base + Performance Bonus + Benefits

The Opportunity

We’re partnering with a leading financial technology organisation that is transforming the infrastructure behind institutional trading, financing and capital markets.

They’re looking for an exceptional Senior Software Engineer to take a leading role in designing and developing high-performance, distributed systems supporting complex trading operations across traditional and digital asset classes.

This is a senior individual contributor opportunity offering significant technical ownership, architectural influence and the chance to work on mission‑critical platforms at the intersection of financial markets and cutting‑edge engineering.

You’ll work alongside experienced engineers, quantitative researchers and financial markets specialists, tackling challenging problems involving trade processing, real‑time data and large‑scale financial infrastructure.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Architect and develop highly scalable, distributed backend systems supporting institutional trading, financing and risk management.
• Build robust, high‑performance Python services handling complex financial transactions and large volumes of market data.
• Design and optimise data processing pipelines supporting real‑time financial analytics.
• Develop integrations with exchanges, trading platforms and external financial counterparties.
• Take technical ownership of core trading infrastructure, improving reliability, scalability and performance.
• Collaborate with quantitative researchers, trading teams and business stakeholders to deliver sophisticated financial technology solutions.
• Drive architectural decisions, establish engineering best practices and mentor other engineers.
• Ensure critical systems meet demanding production reliability, availability and performance standards.

What We’re Looking For

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, with significant experience building production‑grade backend systems.
• Strong expertise in Python, including designing and developing complex, scalable applications.
• Extensive experience within financial services, ideally investment banking, hedge funds, prime brokerage or institutional trading.
• Strong understanding of trade processing and the end‑to‑end trade lifecycle, particularly post‑trade workflows.
• Proven ability to design distributed systems and high‑throughput, data‑intensive applications.
• Strong experience with relational databases, ideally PostgreSQL.
• Experience with AWS and modern cloud infrastructure.
• Familiarity with Kafka, Snowflake or similar data technologies.
