Job summary

Gurtam is seeking a backend engineer to join a distributed team powering Wialon, a fleet management platform used by clients in 160+ countries. You will design and build scalable services handling large data flows and real-time operations.

You will own modules end-to-end, implement APIs, write tests, and document systems while collaborating across teams. Strong Python 3, async frameworks, SQL, REST, and Git are essential, as is clear communication in English and Russian.

What you'll do

We don't do "simple" here. You'll be joining a distributed team that handles massive data flows and complex backend logic — powering one of the world's largest fleet management platforms. Your typical week will involve:

• Architecture & Development: Designing and building high-quality, maintainable, and scalable software solutions that drive real-world operations across 160+ countries.
• System Ownership: Taking full ownership of your modules — from architectural decisions and estimation through to deployment and production monitoring.
• Code Quality: Writing, maintaining, and executing code and test scripts with a focus on reliability, clean structure, and best practices.
• Technical Documentation: Creating and maintaining clear, thorough documentation that keeps the whole distributed team aligned.
• Cross-Team Collaboration: Partnering with your team to define requirements, estimate timelines, and contribute to planning — from weekly sprints to long‑term roadmap goals.

What you’ll bring

We’re looking for a backend engineer who enjoys the heavy lifting of distributed systems, thrives in async environments, and brings a strong sense of ownership. We’d love to chat if you have:

• Strong knowledge of Python 3.
• Expertise in at least one async web framework — Aiohttp, FastAPI, or Tornado.
• Deep hands‑on experience with SQL databases, including writing and optimizing queries.
• Solid understanding of RESTful principles and experience designing and implementing APIs.
• Practical experience with Git and version control workflows — branching, pull requests, and code reviews.
• An analytical mind that thrives on breaking down complex technical challenges.
• English — Upper Intermediate or higher.
• Russian — Upper Intermediate or higher.

Nice if you have

• Experience writing async code.
• Experience writing unit tests.
• Hands‑on experience with NoSQL databases.
• Familiarity with big data, time‑series, or statistical data processing.
• Initiative in technical discussions and cross‑team communication.

Salary: €4,000 – €5,500 Gross/month (based on experience)
