Job summary

Morningstar is seeking a Software Engineer to architect, optimize, and develop Python-based applications and APIs, leveraging cloud-native services and async programming. You will design with PostgreSQL/SQLAlchemy and vector databases like Weaviate/Pinecone, and contribute to AI governance and retrieval-augmented generation initiatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master’s in CS or related field with relevant experience.
• Experience architecting Python applications and REST APIs for data processing.
• Strong SQL experience with PostgreSQL; knowledge of ORM (SQLAlchemy).
• Familiarity with AI/ML concepts, NLP, retrieval-augmented generation and embeddings.
• Experience with CI/CD, Git, and cloud services (AWS).

Responsibilities

• Architect, optimize and develop Python apps and APIs (FastAPI/Flask).
• Work with relational and vector databases and dataframes for processing.
• Drive AI security, governance, and responsible AI practices.
• Explore AI-driven enterprise platforms and model optimization.
• Define technical docs, guidelines, reviews, and maintainable codebases.
