Job summary

James Hardie in Wilmington, OH or Fontana, CA is seeking a Senior Polymer Scientist/Engineer to own PVC materials technology from formulation through manufacturing. You will bring deep polymer science expertise to develop, optimize, and deploy PVC formulations for high‑performance building products.

The role requires strong fundamentals in polymer chemistry, experience with AI assisted material characterizations, and the ability to bridge research with plant trials.

Qualifications

• PhD in Polymer Science, Polymer Engineering, Materials Science, or Chemical Engineering with 2–5 years of experience, or MS with 3–7 years of experience.
• Strong fundamental knowledge of polymer chemistry and polymer engineering.
• Experience in AI assisted material characterizations and formulation development for composite materials.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Travel –25% (mainly domestic)

Responsibilities

• Polymer Formulation & Materials Development: develop, optimize, and evaluate PVC formulations and related additives.
• Process & Manufacturing Support: troubleshoot extrusion and compounding processes and scale lab formulations to production.
• Testing & Characterization: design experiments and interpret data using DSC, TGA, DMA, rheometry and related techniques.
• Project Management & Technical Communication: plan projects and communicate findings clearly with stakeholders.
