Job summary

CHS Inc. is seeking a Senior Purchasing Specialist for the Animal Nutrition team in a remote role across the United States.

You will review sources, negotiate terms, place purchase orders in the ERP, and collaborate with grain marketing and production teams to optimize cost of goods and ensure timely deliveries. The role requires strong communication and a background in feed ingredient purchasing.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED.
• 4+ years of experience in supply chain management, procurement, purchasing and commodity trading/merchandising.

Summary

CHShas an exciting remote opportunity to join our Animal Nutrition team! As aSenior Purchasing Specialist, you will have the ability to purchase all necessary commodities and ingredients for our feed manufacturing facilities across the U.S. Written & verbal communication, attention to detail, and passion will be key components to success in this opportunity.

Preferably located within Sioux Falls, SD or St. Paul, MN area

Responsibilities

• Review, analyze and select the best sources of supply, and select vendors based off that information.
• Negotiate prices, terms and delivery of feed ingredients to keep our customers’ orders in full and on time.
• Evaluate alternative sources of supply and vendors, paying attention to quality and specifications of ingredients sourced. Create purchase orders and contracts when applicable.
• Responsible for placing orders with vendors and completing purchase orders in the ERP.
• Contact vendors with any quality discrepancies and address issues quickly.
• Communicate ingredient supply issues to other business functions along with the Purchasing manager to help with communication and reformulation efforts.
• Work closely with Global Grain Marketing personnel (i.e., grain merchants, originators, and CHS Hedging) to leverage our scale and other product lines to reduce our cost of goods.
• Build strong working relationships with Plant Managers and Production Teams.
• Must have prior experience and knowledge of the feed industry, ingredient purchasing and logistics, relative value merchandising, and working knowledge of formulation activities.
• Develop purchasing strategies for ingredients responsible for.
• Maintain and promote a strong safety culture and follow all safety policies, procedures and regulations. Identify and communicate workplace hazards and correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions.
• Perform other responsibilities as needed or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (required)

• High School diploma or GED
• 4+ years of experience in supply chain managmenet, procurement, puchasing and commodity trading/ merchandising.

Additional Qualifications

• Advanced knowledge of Purchasing Best Business Practice, Math, & Ethics.
• Manufacturing purchasing experience, preferably within the animal nutrition industry.
• Ability to establish and maintain strong professional relationships
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
• Ability to influence and negotiate
• Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel & Teams)
• Bachelor's degree preferred in Animal Science/ Nutrition, Ag Business, Ag economics, Business, Logistics, Supply Chain Management or related field

Actual pay offered will vary based on multiple factors which may include, without limitation, experience, education, training, specialized skills and certifications, minimum wage/salary requirements under local law.
