Job summary

Builders Source Appliance Gallery is seeking a Senior Manager, Purchasing & Inventory Controls to lead purchasing, inventory management, and accuracy across the appliance business. This role acts as the control tower for inventory transactions—from purchase through final disposition—and builds visibility and accountability to protect inventory and working capital.

You will coach and lead a team, partner across functions, and drive continuous improvement in controls, aging, and recovery.

Qualifications

• 7+ years in purchasing, inventory management or related field.
• 3+ years of leadership experience.
• Bachelor's degree in supply chain management or related field.
• Experience in multi-location distribution, retail or appliances.
• Experience with cycle counts, inventory adjustments, variances and returns.
• Advanced Excel and Office; dashboards/visual controls a plus.

Builders Source Inc. (BSI) is seeking a Senior Manager, Purchasing & Inventory Controls to lead purchasing, inventory management and accuracy, returns, vendor recovery, and inventory-control processes across our appliance business.

This role serves as the control tower for the inventory transaction—from purchase through final disposition. You’ll establish standards and decision rights, lead the Purchasing & Inventory Controls team, strengthen vendor partnerships, and create the visibility and accountability needed to protect inventory, working capital, and the customer promise.

What You’ll Do

As the Senior Manager, Purchasing & Inventory Controls, you’ll provide strategic and hands‑on leadership across the function, including:

• Lead purchasing and inventory controls, establishing clear standards and accountability for purchasing execution, inventory accuracy, transaction discipline, returns, vendor recovery, aged inventory, and control reporting.
• Oversee the purchasing lifecycle, including purchase‑order execution, order status, vendor follow‑up, delayed orders, exceptions, and special‑order product.
• Own inventory accuracy and controls, including cycle‑count programs, variance thresholds, inventory adjustments, root‑cause investigations, corrective actions, and recurring‑error reporting.
• Lead returns and disposition controls, ensuring returned product has proper authorization, ownership, reason codes, disposition paths, vendor‑credit decisions, due dates, and documented next steps.
• Drive vendor recovery, including return authorizations (RAs), vendor credits, aging, outstanding credit dollars, and final inventory treatment.
• Manage aged and special‑order inventory, identifying stranded, obsolete, or stalled inventory and driving timely action and escalation.
• Establish and monitor KPIs for inventory accuracy, cycle‑count variance, return cycle time, disposition aging, vendor recovery, outstanding RA/credit dollars, and aged‑stock exposure.
• Develop and lead the team, coaching Purchasing, Inventory Control, Returns/Vendor Recovery, and support employee‑owners while clarifying roles, building bench strength, and driving accountability.
• Partner cross‑functionally with Sales, Customer Experience, Operations, Finance, and vendors to strengthen handoffs, improve inventory visibility, and support customer commitments while maintaining appropriate controls and segregation of duties.
• Drive continuous improvement, using purchasing and inventory data to identify control failures, vendor issues, financial exposure, working‑capital opportunities, and process improvements.

What We’re Looking For

• 7+ years of progressively responsible experience in purchasing, inventory management, inventory controls, supply chain, distribution, or a related function preferred.
• 3+ years of people or functional leadership experience preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Operations, Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or a related field preferred; equivalent progressively responsible experience may be considered.
• Experience in multi‑location distribution, retail, appliances, building products, or another inventory‑intensive environment strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated experience with cycle counts, inventory adjustments, variance/root‑cause analysis, returns disposition, vendor credits, RA recovery, aged inventory, and controls reporting.
• Strong analytical and financial skills with the ability to evaluate inventory dollars, aging, turns, variances, recovery exposure, trends, and operational performance.
• Experience with ERP, inventory‑management, purchasing, warehouse‑management, and reporting systems.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office skills; experience building dashboards or visual controls is a plus.
• Strong leadership, communication, decision‑making, problem‑solving, and cross‑functional relationship skills.
