Applications are being accepted for the positions of Senior Public Works Maintenance Worker with the City of South San Francisco.

THE DEPARTMENT

The Public Works Department is comprised of the Maintenance, Engineering and WQCP (Water Quality Control Plant) divisions.

The Maintenance Division is responsible for all of the asphalt and concrete streets within the City as well as all of the associated signalized intersections, street lights, road signs and traffic markings. The division also maintains the sanitary sewer/storm system which includes all of the sanitary sewer lines, all of the storm lines and catch basins, several storm water pump stations, as well as various large storm water trash capture devices throughout the City.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a skilled, dependable, and safety-conscious public works professional with strong knowledge of street, sewer, drainage, and infrastructure maintenance and repair. They are experienced in operating a variety of vehicles, tools, and equipment and are comfortable performing physically demanding work independently and with minimal supervision. The successful candidate can manage and organize assignments, guide a small crew, communicate effectively, and lead by example. They demonstrate sound judgment, initiative, problem-solving skills, and the ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines while maintaining high standards of safety and quality. Experience with computers is also desirable as this position will check emails, create work orders, and respond to resident service requests. The ideal candidate also provides excellent customer service and represents the City professionally when interacting with residents, contractors, other agencies, and City staff.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:

Experience:

Three years of progressively more responsible experience in general construction, maintenance, and repair work.

Training:

Equivalent to completion of high school.

Licenses/Certificates:

All licenses and certificates must be maintained as a condition of employment.

• Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California commercial driver’s license, with proper endorsements and a satisfactory driving record.
• For some positions, the possession of a Grade I certification for Collection System Maintenance Technologist is desirable.
• Possession of, or the ability to obtain as appropriate, confined space certification
