Job summary

Shield AI seeks a Senior Propulsion Design Engineer to lead propulsion hardware development for the X-BAT platform, covering engine, fuel, oil, and bleed air systems. You will drive manufacturable, testable hardware across multiple subsystems and work closely with cross-functional teams.

The role demands hands-on design work, rigorous GD&T, and strong collaboration with propulsion REs, machinists, production, controls, airframe, and flight test teams. U.S.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering; MS preferred.
• 5+ years of aerospace hardware design experience, propulsion preferred.
• Experience with NX CAD modeling and GD&T application.
• Experience working with production, machinists, and suppliers.
• U.S. citizenship or ITAR compliance awareness.

Responsibilities

• Own the design and release of propulsion hardware for engine, fuel, oil, and bleed air systems.
• Develop and maintain CAD models, drawings, and assemblies (NX) with GD&T.
• Translate architecture into manufacturable, testable hardware for flight.
• Collaborate with machine shop, production staff, and technicians to resolve issues.
• Support test campaigns with hardware design input and instrumentation.
• Apply analyses (hand calculations, ANSYS, FEA, REFPROP) for validation.
• Assist configuration management, BOM control, and change processes.
• Participate in design reviews and root-cause investigations.
