Job summary

Impulse Space, based in Redondo Beach, is seeking a Senior Propulsion Component Engineer (Electromechanical) to own all aspects of propulsion hardware from concept to realization. You will work with a fast-paced, agile team to build a high-performance spacecraft from a clean sheet design.

You will design electro-mechanical propulsion components, perform system trades, develop CAD models, and support thermal/structural analysis, assembly, and testing to deliver flight-ready hardware.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field.
• 5+ years of demonstrated experience in high power density motor and/or actuator design.
• Strong understanding of electromechanical component design including force/torque margin, materials, motor selection, wear, electronics, motor control and firmware interfaces.
• Hands-on experience with fluid, electrical and mechanical systems.
• Hands-on experience with propulsion systems.
• Proficient in CAD software with ability to learn new tools.
• Experience in requirements definition, conceptual design, procurement, fabrication, assembly and testing of hardware.

As a Senior Propulsion Component Engineer (Electromechanical) at Impulse, you will own all aspects of component design from concept to product realization, while working closely with a fast-paced, agile team that strives to make a high-performance spacecraft from a clean sheet design.

Minimum Qualifications

Preferred Skills And Experience

• Experience designing and operating high reliability, high performance hardware
• Experience with high-power density and vacuum-rated components
• Experience in a startup or agile development environment
• Strong project management skills and effective communication of technical concepts across multi-disciplinary teams

• Flexible schedule and willing to travel as needed

Compensation bands are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual level and base pay is determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related skills, education, experience, technical capabilities and internal equity. In addition to base salary, for full-time hires, you may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of stock options, and access to medical, vision & dental coverage as well as access to a 401(k) retirement plan.
