Position Overview and Responsibilities

At Sentral, we are building a team of people-first focused individuals who thrive on going above and beyond. The Senior Accountant role owns the accounting for two complex, multi-use communities, partnering closely with both the on-site property teams and the corporate accounting team across all accounting functions — from general ledger close through ownership-level reporting. This role also serves as a key point of contact for direct ownership communication, CAM reconciliations, and audit facilitation across the portfolio. Yardi experience is essential, as this person will be expected to work confidently in the system from day one. This role reports to the Community Accounting Manager overseeing this portfolio.

The ideal candidate brings a strong accounting, ownership-communication, and reporting skill set, along with a strong desire to be part of a unique, rapidly growing company. Success in this role calls for a growth mindset, an entrepreneurial drive, and a high tolerance for uncertainty. Candidates should be highly organized, comfortable taking a roll-up-the-sleeves approach, and able to demonstrate a track record of strong performance managing complex, multi-component properties.

  • Own the monthly financial close and reporting for two complex, multi-use communities, including account analysis, journal entries, and related research.
  • Prepare and maintain segregated financial reporting and tracking by community component (e.g., residential, retail, commercial, parking, and amenity spaces), ensuring income and expenses are properly allocated across each.
  • Manage and reconcile multiple bank accounts across both communities, researching and resolving variances in a timely manner.
  • Serve as a primary accounting point of contact for ownership, preparing and presenting monthly and quarterly financial results and responding directly to ownership inquiries.
  • Prepare and manage annual CAM (Common Area Maintenance) reconciliations, including tenant billing calculations, supporting schedules, and resolution of tenant disputes or variances.
  • Facilitate and organize interim and annual audits, preparing audit schedules and supporting documentation and serving as a key liaison with external auditors, attorneys, and lenders.
  • Support the annual budgeting process and ongoing reforecasting, including preparation of property-level budget templates, variance-to-budget commentary, and projection schedules for ownership and lender reporting.
  • Serve as a hands-on accounting resource to both the on-site property teams and the corporate accounting team, supporting all accounting functions across the portfolio.
  • Research and respond to Property Managers’ and ownership’s questions regarding month-end financials.
  • Train and support Community team members on accounting and financial systems and processes, including Yardi.
  • Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable (AP/AR) across both communities.
  • Reconcile hospitality operations where applicable, including reservations, check-in/check-out activity, and cash received.
  • Record monthly adjusting and accrual entries and complete financial statement analysis in accordance with GAAP, including variance reporting.
  • Help implement and refine accounting policies and procedures, with a focus on process improvement across a multi-component portfolio.
  • Serve as a resource and mentor to Staff Accountants supporting the portfolio.
  • Support the Community Accounting Manager with additional tasks and special projects.
Skills and Experience
  • Yardi experience required — this role supports two complex, multi-use community portfolios, and Yardi proficiency is essential from day one.
  • 4+ years of experience on a real estate accounting team, including experience with mixed-use, multi-component, or commercial properties.
  • Direct experience communicating with ownership groups, including preparing and presenting financial results.
  • CAM reconciliation experience, including tenant billing and lease-related calculations.
  • Experience maintaining segregated financial reporting and tracking across multiple property components (e.g., residential, retail, commercial).
  • Experience managing multiple bank reconciliations across a multi-entity or multi-component portfolio.
  • Experience facilitating and organizing external audits, including preparing audit schedules and supporting documentation.
  • Accounting or finance degree, or equivalent relevant experience; CPA or progress toward CPA a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies and software quickly.
  • Experience implementing and optimizing accounting processes.
  • Experience training property-level teams on accounting processes.
  • Strong operational and customer-service skills, with high initiative and the ability to problem-solve and work independently.
  • Comfortable splitting time and priorities between on-site property teams and the corporate accounting team.
  • REIT experience preferred.
