Job summary

Apex Companies - CSW is seeking a Project Scientist to provide senior technical oversight on Phase II investigations, UST/AST work, and remediation efforts within the Illinois EPA LUST and SRP programs. You will manage plans, budgets, and client communications while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.

The role includes mentoring junior staff, coordinating with subcontractors, and performing environmental sampling across soil, groundwater, and air.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Engineering, or related field.
• 4+ years of environmental consulting or related experience with strong technical writing and field oversight.
• 40-hour HAZWOPER certification (8-hour refresher preferred).
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally to project sites.

Responsibilities

• Provide senior-level technical oversight and field activities for Phase II site investigations.
• Managing projects under Illinois EPA LUST and SRP with reports, work plans, budgets, and reimbursements.
• Oversee subcontractors and liaise with Apex, general contractors, and clients for safe, compliant work.
• Conduct environmental sampling including soil, groundwater, and air monitoring; document and report findings.
• Prepare, review, and manage technical reports, proposals, and field docs.
• Support emergency response projects, including after-hours or weekend work.
• Mentor and train junior staff while promoting safety and technical growth.
