Job summary

HBK Engineering is seeking a Senior Project Manager for our Underground Transmission team, based in Chicago or Philadelphia. This role leads project managers, engineers, designers, and field personnel across duct bank, vault, and cable installations from 69kV to 345kV, with responsibility for safety, schedule, and budget.

You will mentor teams, manage proposals and contracts, coordinate with agencies, and ensure high-quality deliverables.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited program.
• 10+ years of relevant project management experience.
• 5+ years in underground transmission design (duct bank, manhole/vault, splice design, cable ampacity/thermal analysis).
• PMP certification, or PE license, preferred.
• Proficient in AutoCAD.
• Experience leading engineering design teams through all phases of underground transmission projects.
• Proficient in SharePoint and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
• Experience mentoring less experienced staff.
• Ability to work in a team environment and meet deadlines.
• Familiarity with area agencies, municipalities, and governing jurisdictions.
• Contract negotiation and management expertise.
• Program management and financial oversight capabilities.
• Familiarity with IEEE/NESC or local utility standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead, support, and direct teams of project managers, engineers, designers, and field personnel involved in design, modification, analysis, and constructability of underground transmission utility systems.
• Identify project risks and develop comprehensive mitigation strategies.
• Investigate, troubleshoot, and solve engineering and construction-related issues.
• Prepare, review, and approve proposals, contracts, and cost estimates with senior management authority.
• Lead efforts to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget while managing financials and metrics.
• Negotiate revisions, changes, and additions to contractual agreements with sub-consultants and clients.
• Manage, supervise, and schedule execution of programs with comprehensive oversight.
• Monitor productivity, quality, financial health, and progress of programs across multiple projects.
• Lead safety initiatives and ensure program safety compliance.
• Report updates to clients and make recommendations based on experience and education.
• Manage, develop, mentor, and evaluate resources within the organization.
• Train Project Coordinators, Senior Project Coordinators, and Project Managers in best practices and methodologies.
• Travel as required for project needs and client engagement.
• Coordinate with area agencies, municipalities, and governing jurisdictions for project approvals.
• Utilize AutoCAD, Deltek, and SharePoint for project management.
• Lead engineering design teams through all phases of project designs with oversight.

About this Role

This position leads, supports, and directs teams consisting of project managers, engineers, designers, and field personnel involved in the design, modification, analysis, and constructability of new and existing underground transmission systems, including duct bank, manhole/vault, and cable installations ranging from 69kV to 345kV. This senior management role involves leading teams to identify all project risks and develop mitigation strategies while working on challenging assignments that include investigating, troubleshooting, and solving a wide variety of engineering and construction-related issues. The position requires managing, supervising, and scheduling execution of programs while monitoring productivity, quality, financial health, and progress with comprehensive oversight responsibilities. What You’ll Do

Compensation Range

The anticipated compensation for this position is USD $90,000.00/Yr. - USD $130,000.00/Yr. depending on experience and qualifications.
