BKF Engineers is seeking a Senior Project Manager to lead the Water Resources practice in California, driving design, planning, and client relations for flood control, stormwater, and hydraulic projects.

The role requires 14+ years in civil/environmental engineering, strong communication, and proven staff management; PE in CA is preferred. The position is hybrid, with growth potential to Principal Engineer or higher within BKF’s long‑standing practice.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering required.
• PE licensure in CA required.
• Master’s degree is a plus for advanced roles.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a project manager on larger design and construction projects.
• Serve as a technical leader or management leader within the Water Resources sector.
• Perform and oversee complex engineering tasks including designs, reports, drawings, specs, and calculations for water distribution systems with focus on pump stations, tanks, and transmission mains.
• Review product designs and drawings for compliance with engineering principles and standards.
• Develop proposals and budgets for larger engineering efforts.
• Meet with clients to determine project scope, staffing, and fees for review and signature.
• Develop and maintain client contact before, during, and after project completion.
• Cultivate client relationships through industry groups and direct outreach.
• Maintain three-month workload projections for all projects under direct management.
• Mentor and train Senior Project Engineers, Engineering Managers, and Project Managers.

We are looking for Senior Project Manager to be a key contributor as we grow our Water Resources business sector. This position is equivalent to a Principal Engineer or higher level at similar consulting firms and represents experience beyond the mid-level in technical expertise, design, project planning, project engineering, management, client relations and/or business development.

Essential Duties and Accountabilities

Ideal candidates will have demonstrated experience with flood control systems, stormwater conveyance infrastructure, hydraulic and hydrologic modeling, drainage and watershed master planning, green infrastructure, and/or storm pump station design and analysis. Familiarity with municipal stormwater programs and regulatory requirements is preferred.

• Serve as a project manager on larger design and construction projects.
• Serve as a technical leader or management leader within the Water Resources sector.
• Perform and oversee complex engineering tasks including engineering designs, preparing reports, construction drawings, specifications, and calculations for water distribution systems with focus on pump stations, tanks, and transmission mains.
• Review product designs and drawings for compliance with engineering principles, firm standards, customer contract requirements, and related specifications.
• Develop proposals and budgets for larger engineering efforts.
• Meet with clients to determine recommended project scope, estimate staffing requirements, and fee for review and prepare for signature.
• Develop and maintain client contact before, during, and after project completion.
• Cultivate client relationships through industry groups and by direct contract.
• Maintain three-month workload projections for all projects under personal management.
• Mentor and train Senior Project Engineers, Engineering Managers, and Project Managers.
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering
• 14+ years of relevant experience
• Excellent communication skills verbal and written
• 4+ years of project and staff management
• Experience with CAD and GIS
• PE licensure in CA
  Preferred Education and/or Experience
• Experience and expertise in pump station and storage tank engineering design
• Master’s degree in in Civil/Environmental Engineering
• Presentations to industry groups and/or leadership in industry groups at the local/regional level.
• Capabilities and interest in municipal sewer collection system, water master planning and advanced modeling also welcome.

• The typical base salary range for this position is $169,041 - $206,606 annualized depending upon skills, experience, education, and geographical location. This is a salary position paid biweekly.
