Job summary

Wightman in Kalamazoo, MI seeks a Senior Civil Engineer for Municipal Services to lead municipal projects and grow client relationships. The role requires extensive experience with storm, sanitary, water, and local roads, plus strong business development skills.

You will supervise project engineers and collaborate across locations to deliver quality outcomes. Ideal candidates bring 12+ years in municipal project management, PE licensure in Michigan (Indiana preferred), and a proven track record

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
• PE licensure in Michigan is required.
• 12+ years in municipal project management (storm, sanitary, water, local roads).
• 12+ years in A/E/C with municipal client retention and attraction.
• 5+ years developing business and managing direct reports.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and foster relationships with municipal clients.
• Strong technical skills for storm, sanitary, water, and local roads projects.
• Oversee team performance and workload; coordinate with other locations.
• Manage projects including client communications, public input, financial performance, and internal support.

Senior Civil Engineer - Municipal Services

Position Purpose

We are seeking a Civil Engineer with extensive experience and a proven track record partnering with municipal clients. Candidates must have excellent business development skills, a passion for people, and be dedicated to exemplary work for our communities. Essential Functions

• Maintain and foster good relationships with current and potential municipal clients
• Strong technical skills for storm, sanitary, water and local roads projects
• Oversee team performance and workload; facilitate work sharing with other locations and practices to deliver best‑in‑class projects to our clients
• Manage projects including client communications, public input and feedback, financial performance, and internal support
• Identify engineering and surveying services needed by the client and draft proposals and estimate fees
• Familiar with, identify, and pursue funding mechanisms to support our municipal clients

Required Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field
• PE licensure in Michigan
• 12+ years of experience managing municipal projects (storm, sanitary, water, local roads)
• 12+ years of experience in A/E/C industry with a record of municipal client retention and attraction

Preferred Education and Experience

• 5+ years of experience developing business
• 5+ years of experience managing direct reports
• PE licensure in Indiana

Travel

• Position based in Kalamazoo
• 10–15% local travel
