Senior Civil Project Manager
$135,000 - $185,000 + bonus | Hybrid | Naperville
The Opportunity
A nationally recognisied architecture, engineering, and construction (A/E/C) firm is looking for a Senior Civil Project Manager to lead site/civil projects from concept through construction. Founded in 1999, the business has grown to 650+ people across 26 offices in the US and Canada, and is trusted by some of the most recognisable brands in North America to deliver national, multisite programmes.
What makes this different from a traditional civil consultancy: every discipline sits in-house - civil, structural, MEP, architecture, survey, land use planning, permitting, programme management, and general contracting. Projects move faster, you get far broader exposure, and you're never boxed into a silo.
Why Engineers Join
- Genuine growth, not a holding pattern - The firm is in active expansion mode across convenience and fueling, retail, grocery, restaurants, housing, industrial, semiconductor, financial, and zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) infrastructure.
- Work that gets noticed - Their energy arm delivers EPC on some of the largest public fast-charging hubs in the country, including a recent 48-stall, 5.6 MW site, and one of the first publicly accessible medium/heavy-duty electric truck charging stations in the US. They ranked #15 on ENR's 2025 Top 400 Contractors list in the Power - Transmission, Distribution & EV Charging category.
- Benefits that genuinely stand out - 100% employer-paid health coverage on the base HSA plan (so $0 in premiums for employee medical), plus employer HSA contributions.
- 401(k) with immediate vesting - no waiting period on the match.
- Bonus programmes including professional licensure bonuses, plus reimbursement of professional registration fees.
- Real flexibility - hybrid by design, with Summer Fridays built into the calendar and generous PTO.
- Investment in your development - tuition reimbursement plus an in-house corporate university offering structured training, professional development, and continuing education.
- Culture you can point to - values of Integrity, Service, Inclusion, Excellence and Innovation, backed by two paid volunteer days per year, twice-annual company Days of Service, employee-led Diversity & Unity and Mental Health & Wellness committees, and annual internal value awards.
- Recognised as an employer - recipient of the 2024 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award, the highest US government honour for employers supporting Guard and Reserve employees, and ranked among Washington's Best Workplaces.
- The extras - paid parental leave, bereavement leave, EAP, life/AD&DD, disability, critical illness and accident cover, legal services, wellness challenges and a free virtual gym app, wholesale club membership reimbursement (BJ's, Costco or Sam's), discounts on travel and leisure, a points-based recognition programme with real spendable value, and a generous employee referral bonus.
The Role
You'll manage a varied portfolio of civil engineering projects end to end - field observation, due diligence with authorities, site layout, utility and stormwater design, permitting, and construction administration support. You'll coordinate with the in-house architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing and structural teams to develop construction documents, and act as the client's main point of contact throughout.
Day to day, you will:
- Run multiple projects and clients simultaneously, owning timelines and communication
- Serve as lead client contact and manage project financial performance, including profitability, efficiency and AR
- Prepare and negotiate proposals and contracts with clients and sub-consultants
- Allocate resources, build and monitor budgets, and manage schedules
- Set design criteria, oversee plan preparation, and solve design problems against general design standards
- Coordinate internal disciplines and the wider external project team
- Manage, develop and mentor Project Engineers and Designers
- Apply QA/QC practice while looking for quality and efficiency gains
- Grow existing client relationships and support new client pursuits
- Assess constructability, identify design and construction liability issues, and provide risk assessments with associated costs and probabilities
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
- 10+ years of civil project management experience in site/civil production - commercial work such as retail, hospitality and/or fueling is preferred
- P.E. is a plus, but not essential
- Civil 3D and AutoCAD experience; MS Office
- A practical interest in using company-approved AI tools to improve team processes and decision-making, with the judgement to review AI-generated output for accuracy, protect confidential information, and stand behind the final work product
