Job description

The Industrial Water (IW) Senior Project Manager (SPM) role is responsible for leading the growth and development of the Technology Market Sector within BC’s Private Sector Business Unit (PSBU). The SPM applies expertise in water and wastewater engineering, client services, and project management to achieve the firm’s prominence in IW through best practices, strategic vision, persuasive leadership, and coordination across multiple groups within BC. The position is action‑oriented and makes decisions based on significant subject‑matter expertise, instinct, and collaboration with PSBU leadership.

Responsibilities
  • Project team leadership expectations:
    • Set direction: define objectives, decision‑making processes, schedules, budgets, and success factors.
    • Communicate: establish effective communication methods for team stand‑ups, technical/design decisions, and client interactions.
    • Support team motivation: empower members, resolve conflicts, provide feedback, and celebrate success.
    • Establish trust: demonstrate integrity, competence, consistency, loyalty, and transparency.
    • Create a safe environment: support an atmosphere where ideas and creativity thrive.

  • Execution of BC’s project delivery requirements:
    • Scope: collaborate on detailed scopes of work, set clear expectations, and develop realistic pathways to quality delivery.
    • Schedule: collaborate on project schedules, recommend mitigation measures for delays, and ensure timely resource allocation.
    • Budget: develop and collaborate on work breakdown structures and project budgets aligned with scope and schedule; manage the budget to meet financial plans.
    • Quality Management: implement and monitor quality plans and processes to enhance client trust and meet standards.
    • Change Management: identify, manage, and recommend internal and external changes; prepare scope and budget for change and secure client approval.
    • Risk Management: identify risks, develop mitigation strategies, monitor ongoing risks, and update the risk profile throughout the project lifecycle.
    • Health & Safety: lead by example and follow BC policy and client requirements; develop and implement health‑and‑safety plans per project requirements.
    • Manage external resources: oversee third parties/vendors to deliver on their contracted scope, quality, and budget.
  • Delivery of Project and Business Performance Metrics: lead achievement of scope, schedule, budget, and quality goals; monitor profitability through earned value analysis, business revenue forecasting, and invoicing/collections.
  • Client Service and Sales/Marketing Support and Engagement: build successful relationships with clients, collaborate with service managers and project teams, and monitor client critical success factors.
  • Flexibility to adapt and execute various additional assignments based on evolving needs.
Mentorship

The SPM may provide mentorship, guidance, support, and knowledge‑sharing to help less experienced team members develop skills and grow in their roles.

  • Advanced understanding of quality and change management tools, techniques, and processes; comprehensive understanding of contract management and client service.

Experience
  • Typically, a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience managing mid‑size to large projects with progressively increasing responsibility.
  • Competency in development and monitoring of moderate project schedules, budgets, and risk management.
  • Experience leading cross‑functional teams.
  • Proven experience in project planning, risk and change management, and contract management of mid‑size projects.
  • Previous experience applying specialized knowledge in project management to deliver solutions for clients.
Education

A bachelor’s degree in project management, engineering, business administration, or equivalent relevant experience is required.

  • Experience delivering water and wastewater infrastructure for the data center industry.
  • MS in engineering and/or MBA.
  • PE registration.

Salary Range

Location A: $117,000 - $159,000

Location B: $128,000 - $175,000

Location C: $140,000 - $191,000
