Job summary

Jacobs in Connecticut seeks a Deputy Project Manager to lead project, people, and client relationships on a major multidisciplinary transportation program.

You will mentor staff, coordinate disciplines, and develop account plans with CTDOT, with potential progression to leadership roles within the CT transportation team.

We offer health and welfare benefits, a hybrid work policy, and a base salary range of $185,000 to $200,000.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related field.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in Connecticut or able to obtain licensure within an agreed timeframe.
  • Significant progressive experience delivering transportation planning, design, or program-management assignments.
  • Proven track record managing large, complex highway or transportation projects.
  • Strong knowledge of CTDOT standards, procedures, and stakeholder environment.
  • Experience managing project scope, schedule, budget, quality, risk, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to develop staff, mentor project managers and professionals, and lead through influence.
  • Strong client-service, communication, presentation, negotiation, and relationship-management skills.
  • Experience supporting business development, capture planning, proposals, and client interviews.
  • Ability to operate across project delivery, people leadership, and client development responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as PM/DPM on large, complex, multidisciplinary transportation project.
  • Support the Project Manager in managing scope, schedule, budget, quality, risk, change, staffing, and client expectations.
  • Coordinate roadway, bridge, traffic, drainage, environmental, rail, and supporting disciplines.
  • Provide leadership to the Connecticut transportation team and transition into future leadership roles.
  • Mentor technical leads and emerging leaders fostering collaboration and technical excellence.
  • Serve as a Client Service Leader for CTDOT, building trusted relationships and coordinating engagement.
  • Develop and implement client account plans aligned with CTDOT priorities and Jacobs’ growth strategy.
  • Identify, qualify, and shape opportunities including large design programs and on-call work.
  • Lead or support capture planning, teaming, proposals, presentations, and interviews.
  • Apply governance, quality management, and commercial practices to improve outcomes.
  • Collaborate across Jacobs’ regional networks to bring right resources to CT clients.
  • Represent Jacobs at client meetings, professional organizations, and industry events.

Your impact

In this role, you will provide project, people, and client leadership across our Connecticut transportation business. You will initially serve as a Deputy Project Manager on a major multidisciplinary transportation project, working alongside senior project leadership to manage scope, schedule, budget, quality, risk, and client expectations.

You will also support the leadership and continued development of our Connecticut highway and transportation team, with the opportunity to transition into a broader team leadership role in the near term. As a Client Service Leader for the Connecticut Department of Transportation, you will strengthen senior client relationships, shape account strategy, identify upcoming opportunities, and help position Jacobs for sustained growth across highway, bridge, rail, and multimodal programs.

What You’ll Do
  • Serve as PM/DPM on large, complex, multidisciplinary transportation project.
  • Support the Project Manager in managing scope, schedule, budget, quality, risk, change, staffing, and client expectations.
  • Coordinate roadway, bridge, traffic, drainage, environmental, rail, and supporting technical disciplines.
  • Provide visible leadership to the Connecticut transportation team and support an orderly transition into a future team leadership role.
  • Mentor technical leads, and emerging leaders while promoting collaboration, accountability, technical excellence, and career development.
  • Serve as a Client Service Leader for CTDOT, building trusted relationships across the agency and coordinating Jacobs’ engagement with key stakeholders.
  • Develop and implement client account plans aligned with CTDOT’s capital priorities and Jacobs’ Northeast growth strategy.
  • Identify, qualify, and shape upcoming opportunities, including large design programs, on-call assignments, and alternative delivery pursuits.
  • Lead or support capture planning, teaming strategies, proposals, presentations, and interviews.
  • Apply sound project governance, quality management, and commercial practices to improve project outcomes.
  • Work across Jacobs’ regional and national network to bring the right technical and delivery resources to Connecticut clients.
  • Represent Jacobs at client meetings, professional organizations, industry events, and community engagements.
Here’s what you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Professional Engineer license in Connecticut, or the ability to obtain Connecticut licensure within an agreed timeframe.
  • Significant progressive experience delivering transportation planning, design, or program-management assignments.
  • Demonstrated success managing large, complex, multidisciplinary highway or transportation projects.
  • Strong knowledge of CTDOT standards, procedures, project-development processes, and stakeholder environment.
  • Experience managing project scope, schedule, budget, quality, risk, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proven ability to develop staff, mentor project managers and technical professionals, and lead through influence.
  • Strong client-service, communication, presentation, negotiation, and relationship-management skills.

Ideally, You’ll Also Have
  • Established relationships with CTDOT leadership, technical units, and program stakeholders.
  • Previous experience leading a transportation department, highway group, or comparable technical team.
  • Experience serving as a program manager, deputy project manager, design manager, or discipline lead on a major transportation program.
  • Experience with large interstate, interchange, corridor, bridge, rail, or multimodal improvement programs.
  • Familiarity with National Environmental Policy Act documentation, alternatives development, maintenance and protection of traffic, roadway design, traffic engineering, drainage, and construction staging.
  • Experience with design-build, progressive design-build, general engineering consultant, or other alternative delivery models.
  • A record of building teams, developing future leaders, and successfully transitioning responsibilities within an organization.
  • Active involvement in Connecticut transportation industry organizations and professional networks.

The base salary range for this position is $185,000.00 to $200,000.00. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
