Job summary

Siegmund Excavation, a CRH company, is seeking a Senior Estimator/Project Manager to lead civil project estimates and manage bids through completion. Stayton, OR area with potential for hybrid scheduling, you’ll coordinate costs, staffing, and scheduling with contractors to deliver high-quality projects.

Qualifications

  • Must have thorough knowledge of civil construction estimating skills and techniques including asphalt paving, dirt work, excavation, underground utilities, and related areas.
  • 7+ years of experience in civil estimating or related project management.
  • Basic familiarity with estimating software Bid2Win or HCSS Heavybid.
  • Ability to read and interpret heavy civil blueprints, specifications, and contracts.
  • Proficient with PC and Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze blueprints, specifications, proposals to prepare time, material, equipment, production and labor estimates.
  • Prepare preliminary estimates for planning and detailed estimates based on final plans.
  • Consult with clients, vendors and others to discuss estimates and resolve issues.
  • Prepare bid packages, estimates and analysis of subcontractor bids for projects of any size.
  • Manage projects from scheduling, resource allocation, cost projections, subcontractor management to billing.
  • Check daily cost sheets for correctness and budget compliance.
  • Coordinate with the job superintendent on plans and startup items.
  • Support inclusive work environment and safety practices.

Position Overview

In this role, you’ll manage all aspects of public and private civil construction projects of various sizes by preparing estimates and bid packages and managing each project through to completion. You’ll serve as the primary point of contact to communicate project costs, staffing, scheduling, and updates with contractors. Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties And Functions)
  • Analyze blueprints, specifications, proposals and other documents to prepare time, material, equipment, production and labor estimates.
  • Prepare preliminary estimates for planning purposes and detailed estimates based on final plans and specifications.
  • Consult with clients, vendors and others to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
  • Maintain current and accurate information on prices from suppliers and contractors through direct contact and written proposals.
  • Prepare bid packages, estimates and analysis of subcontractor bids for projects of any size and complexity.
  • Physically measure, assess the condition, and formalize estimates for projects.
  • Manage projects awarded from scheduling, resource allocation, cost projections, subcontractor management, and billing.
  • Check daily cost sheets for correctness, compliance with estimated cost, and if over budget, find out why and report to management.
  • Prior to job startup, review with the job superintendent the project plans, specifications and review the project startup list to ensure that each item is done.
  • Check that superintendent’s job quantities are correct and submitted.
  • Other tasks and duties as assigned to meet business needs.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of civil construction estimating skills and techniques including knowledge of asphalt paving, dirt work, excavation, underground utilities, and related areas; 7+ years of experience, required.
  • Candidates with civil experience that is closely related to estimating and/or project management may be considered; however, preference will be given to those with experience estimating civil projects.
  • Basic familiarity with estimating software (Bid2Win or HCSS Heavybid)
  • Ability to read and interpret heavy civil blueprints, specifications, and contracts.
  • Proficient with PC & Microsoft Office systems, specifically Excel and Word.
  • Strong customer service, leadership, problem-solving, decision making and organization skills.
Work Requirements
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Safety-minded professional who demonstrates good performance, attendance and punctuality.
  • Must pass pre-employment controlled substance testing.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work some nights and weekends as needed.
  • Demonstrates the ability to conform to and maintain OSHA, MSHA, DOT and all other company or state rules and regulations.
  • Must have current US Authorization to work or ability to obtain without company assistance prior to start date.
Physical Requirements
  • The employee is frequently required to sit, climb, and use hands to signal and handle equipment. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, crawl, kneel, bend, and reach with hands and arms above their shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move anywhere up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
Work Environment
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; outside weather conditions; and extreme cold and/or heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
