Purpose of Position
Messer Americas runs a strong project management system for implementation of our electronics capital projects. The Project Manager is accountable for executing the assigned projects, safely, to specification, on time and on budget. Our Project Managers lead multi‑discipline and multi‑functional teams to deliver these projects for Messer. The Senior Project Manager will independently execute multiple small to medium size projects. The position will execute new plant projects as well as plant upgrades, modifications and retrofits.
Senior Project Managers often support Principal Project Managers on the largest of Messer’s capital projects.
Principal Responsibilities
- Oversee proposal development and project execution of major electronics capital projects for Messer LLC.
- Manage all project activities throughout project cycle; responsible for managing individual projects generally up to $10,000,000 in CAPEX. Senior Project Managers will normally have 2‑3 projects at once.
- Coordinate engineering and design, develop and maintain project schedules and budgets, prepare monthly status reports, oversee construction and commissioning activities, coordinate operator training and ensure technical and administrative closeout of all project issues.
- Manage the outsourcing of discipline engineering.
- Implement the Project Definition & Execution Strategy (PDES) that enables a high degree of confidence in the project scope, schedule, and budget.
- Qualify vendors, negotiate vendor pricing and bidding in conjunction with Procurement.
- Execute the project safely, to specification, on time and on budget, tracking costs and schedules to provide timely updates on spend relative to budget, managing vendors and contractors, and minimizing unbudgeted change orders.
- Manage interface with regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with environmental, life safety and technical code references.
- Organize required internal activities such as safety reviews, Haz‑ops, MOCs and punch lists.
- Ensure that all internal standards and procedures are followed as well as relevant codes and applicable regulations.
- Maintain effective communication of progress and issues with formal monthly reports on material variances to scope, schedule or budget or substantial usage of contingency especially prior to the construction phase.
- Deliver complete project documentation at project conclusion.
- Act as technical resource to plants to develop problem solutions or needed improvements.
- Participate in interdepartmental initiatives.
- Delivery of a safe quality project on schedule and within budget.
- Effective communication with all Messer affected departments.
- Agreement by plant management that objectives are met, all documentation delivered, and all punch list items resolved/agreed.
- Accountable for construction site and the management of the appropriate site resources (safety, construction, commissioning, production, reliability, etc).
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, or other relevant discipline.
- 5 years’ experience in the implementation of capital projects, ideally working in or with the Electronics/Semiconductor industry.
- Ability to travel up to 50% (100 nights/year).
Functional Skills
- Knowledge of codes and regulations as they pertain to industrial gas projects, i.e. ASME particularly B31.1, NEC, building codes, permitting experience.
- Familiarity with design and supply of Ultra High Purity industrial gas systems.
- Experience with field phases – has participated in field construction, check out, commissioning and performance testing and/or punch list closure.

Benefits
The salary range for this position is $110,000 – $146,000. Messer provides medical, dental, vision, short‑term disability, life insurance and paid time off as well as other voluntary benefits, such as long‑term disability in accordance with the terms and conditions of these plans. Employees are eligible to enroll in Messer’s 401(k) Plan. Employees may be eligible to participate in the company’s bonus program.
