Job summary

Tetra Tech seeks a Senior Project/Client Manager to lead and grow our Virginia Beach and Hampton Roads presence, guiding water, wastewater, and advanced treatment projects from concept to construction.

You will manage multidisciplinary teams, ensure successful delivery, and strengthen client relationships across the Mid-Atlantic region.

Qualifications

  • BS in Civil or Environmental Engineering; Master's degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of water/wastewater experience as engineer/PM.
  • VA PE license required or ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • Proven leadership of multidisciplinary teams and large infrastructure programs.

  • Lead delivery of water and wastewater projects from planning through construction.
  • Manage client relationships and growth across the Mid-Atlantic region.
  • Oversee budgets, schedules, and forecasts using project management tools.
  • Coordinate work activities with staff, consultants, and regulatory agencies.
  • Oversee construction contract management and observation services.
  • Mentor entry-level engineers and junior staff.
  • Prepare proposals, secure new work, and develop business opportunities.

Job description

Tetra Tech is seeking a Senior Project/Client Manager to lead and grow our Virginia Beach and Hampton Roads presence while supporting our national infrastructure business unit. This role offers the chance to guide the planning, design, and delivery of complex water, wastewater, and advanced water treatment projects, from concept through construction.

We’re looking for a proven leader who has managed multidisciplinary teams and large metropolitan infrastructure programs, ensuring successful delivery and strong client relationships.

Position Summary

As a Senior Project/Client Manager, you will lead the delivery of complex water and wastewater infrastructure projects while managing client relationships and supporting business growth across the Mid-Atlantic region. You’ll be responsible for the technical execution, financial performance, and overall delivery of projects from concept through construction.

Essential Functions
  • Lead project delivery for water and wastewater treatment, advanced water treatment, conveyance, and pumping facilities from planning through construction.
  • Coordinate work activities of various technical staff and consultants, leading progress meetings, preparing meeting agendas, minutes, and tracking project schedules and budgets;
  • Prepare and manage project budgets, schedules, and forecasts using Tetra Tech’s project management tools.
  • Plan, evaluate, and select preferred design alternatives in coordination with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Oversee and review engineering analyses, design calculations, reports, drawings, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Coordinate work activities and communicate with various municipalities and governmental regulating agencies;
  • Oversee construction contract management and observation services;
  • Prepare reports and permit applications regarding water/wastewater;
  • Supervise and mentor entry-level engineers;
  • Collaborate with regional and local leadership to identify and develop business opportunities (including supporting other Tetra Tech business units), prepare proposals, secure new work, and recruit staff.
Required Qualifications
  • BS in Civil or Environmental Engineering (other disciplines may be considered); Master's degree a plus.
  • 10+ years of experience in water/wastewater discipline - as a W/WW Engineer and/or Project Manager, designing (study, plans and specifications) municipal water/wastewater treatment and collection/distribution projects;
  • PE license in VA is required, or ability to receive in 6 months;
  • Progressive experience in the evaluation, design, permitting and construction administration of water/wastewater treatment facilities, pumping stations, water storage and distribution facilities and wastewater collection systems;
  • Demonstrated project management experience, including budget and schedule monitoring and control responsibilities;
  • Experienced in client relations and business development;
  • Leader and team player possessing strong planning and organizational skills;
  • Local client experience is preferred but not required;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to conduct effective client presentations and written report preparation
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods while performing office and field duties.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds (e.g., field equipment, documents, or samples).
  • Occasional fieldwork may require walking on uneven terrain, climbing stairs or ladders, and exposure to outdoor conditions such as heat, humidity, or inclement weather.
  • Must be able to travel to project sites, client meetings, and team events as required.
  • Work Environment / Environmental Factors
  • This position offers a hybrid work model with project site visits and client meetings as needed. Travel within the Mid-Atlantic region may be required.

The salary range for this position is $180k - $225k.
