Marine Hydraulics International, Inc. is seeking a Senior Project Manager to lead ship repair projects in Norfolk, VA.

  • Strong leadership and communication skills; ability to lead cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

  • Review contracts, work packages, schedules, and manpower plans to meet milestones.
  • Develop and implement project execution strategies and production schedules.
  • Coordinate with production, planning, estimating, purchasing, QA, engineering, contracts, and subcontractors.
  • Serve as primary customer representative and resolve performance issues.
  • Lead project production meetings and monitor budgets, labor, and forecasts.
  • Prepare CFRs, RCCs, RTRs, and project documentation; support project closeout.
  • Oversee subcontractor performance and ensure safety, schedule, and budget adherence.

Salary Range: $100,000.00 To $135,000.00 Annually

MHI Ship Repair & Services is a major marine repair and conversion contractor serving the U.S. Navy, Military Sealift Command, Maritime Administration and Commercial ship owners and operators worldwide. Our shipyard is conveniently located in the Mid-Atlantic region at the port of Hampton Roads, Norfolk Virginia.

Job Summary

The Project Manager is responsible for the overall planning, execution, and successful completion of assigned ship repair projects. This position ensures projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with all contractual quality requirements. Serving as the primary point of contact for assigned projects, the Project Manager leads project execution from initial planning through final closeout, coordinates cross-functional teams, conducts project meetings, and serves as the customer's primary representative for all performance-related matters.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review contract specifications, work packages, material status reports, production schedules, and manpower plans to ensure contractual milestones and project objectives are achieved.
  • Develop and implement project execution strategies and production schedules that support timely and successful project completion.
  • Coordinate with Production, Planning, Estimating, Purchasing, Quality Assurance, Engineering, Contracts, and subcontractors to ensure work is properly planned, scheduled, and executed.
  • Serve as the primary customer representative for assigned projects, establishing project expectations, communicating progress, and resolving performance-related issues.
  • Lead and facilitate all project production meetings throughout project execution.
  • Monitor project performance by reviewing budgets, labor utilization, schedules, costs, progress, and forecasts, ensuring alignment with actual production activities.
  • Prepare, review, and manage critical customer deliverables and project documentation, including Contract Funds Reports (CFR), Request for Contract Changes (RCC), Request to Repair (RTR), N-Items, and other required reports.
  • Direct and oversee subcontractor performance, ensuring work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with contract requirements.
  • Collaborate with the Contracts Department to complete project closeout activities, including submission of Project Performance Information (PPI) and other required documentation.
  • Support the onboarding, training, and development of Assistant Project Managers and newly hired Project Managers.
  • Promote compliance with company policies, safety requirements, quality standards, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 10–15 years of progressive ship repair project management experience, including supervisory responsibility.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple complex projects while meeting cost, schedule, and quality objectives.
  • Strong organizational, planning, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Ability to develop work estimates from specifications and ship-checks.
  • Thorough knowledge of NAVSEA Standard Items, ship repair specifications, and government contracting requirements.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers, subcontractors, management, and employees at all organizational levels.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Microsoft Project or similar project scheduling software.
