Job summary

Hitachi Rail in the New York Area seeks a Senior Project Manager to lead multiple projects with responsibility for P&L and successful delivery. You will coordinate resources with the Project Portfolio Director, manage customer interfaces, and drive project execution through to contract closure.

The role requires 15 years in the industry, 5–10 years in PM with leadership, a degree in Engineering, CBTC knowledge, PMP/IPMA certification, and strong English.

Qualifications

  • 15 years of experience in related industry or aerospace/technical field.
  • 5–10 years of experience as a project manager with people management/leadership experience.
  • University degree in Engineering (Electronic, Telecommunications, or Informatics) or equivalent experience.
  • Strong CBTC railway signalling technical expertise; NY knowledge a plus.
  • Previous experience leading international projects in a matrix environment.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Able to deliver under pressure.
  • PMP or IPMA certification.
  • Located in New York Area.
  • Strong English skills.

Job Description

As a Senior Project Manager, the Incumbent will be responsible to lead and manage multiple small to medium size projects within the same or similar customer/region. The incumbent will also be responsible for contributing to the company’s financial targets while meeting all deliverables and milestones for the project.

Key Accountabilities
  • The Senior Project Manager has the overall projects supervision and is responsible for their project P&L.

  • Coordinate the team regarding resource allocations within the projects with the Project Portfolio Director/Project Director, monitor and control the Projects, and report on overall performance.

  • Drive project execution and controlling until contract closure, supporting the team with a particular focus on:

    • Managing performance, costs, schedule, quality, and risks & opportunities for mitigation actions.

    • Managing interface with key customers, ensuring customer satisfaction for the project(s).

    • Understanding product development dependencies.

    • Implementing, with the support of Operations (PMO), a solid and comprehensive EAC process, sales and cash forecasts and risks & opportunities management.

    • Following Group processes, methods, tools, and practices to deliver projects.

    • Monitoring the performance of the different activities in all work packages.

  • Ensuring lessons learned and driving Projects execution towards continuous improvement. This includes direct contribution to Transformation plans and execution of postmortem Projects lessons learned.

  • Managing URS Projects Management resources in their project(s), ensuring their optimum competence, development, and satisfaction, while supporting the Company’s footprints and SBP business goals.

  • Ensuring the development and training of Project skills and expertise to ensure that the required level is achieved and sustained.

  • Possess the ability to share vision and demonstrate direction from a leadership perspective, fostering a unified path for the projects team in their project(s). Demonstrate strength with compassion, creating an environment where the project team is motivated and focused on the objectives.

  • Display strong communication skills ensuring clarity with senior management, key customers, and the projects teams of their projects.

Key Requirements
  • 15 years of experience in related industry or from technical/aerospace field.

  • 5–10 years of experience as a project manager with people management/leadership experience.

  • University degree in Engineering (Electronic, Telecommunications, or Informatics) or equivalent experience gained through professional practice.

  • Strong technical expertise in Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC) railway signalling systems, knowledge of New York specificities is a plus

  • Previous experience leading international projects in a matrix environment.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Able to deliver under pressure.

  • PMP or IPMA certification.

  • Located in New York Area

  • Strong English skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Engineering Degree is considered a plus.

The Company provides the following estimated compensation range and general description of benefits that it in good faith believes it might pay and/or offer for this position. The exact salary may vary depending on skill and experience, and the Company reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, or federal law.

Estimated Base Salary Range: $151,559-$190,964
