Job summary

Yaskawa Motoman is seeking a Project Manager to lead robotic systems projects. You will manage schedules, budgets, and cross-functional teams, ensuring milestones are met and customer objectives are achieved.

The role requires substantial experience in project management within robotic systems, strong negotiation skills, and the ability to communicate effectively across stakeholders. This position is based in Irvine, CA and will involve travel as needed.

Qualifications

  • Masters Degree and eight to eleven years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum seven years experience as a Project Manager in the robotic systems business.
  • Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

Job description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Responsible for the overall contract execution.
  • Responsible for assisting/leading, generating and managing program schedules, managing project budget and helping set resource priorities.
  • Attend project kick-off meeting and prepare the project team to ensure that objectives are accomplished in accordance with established priorities.
  • Issue a schedule for all projects. Provide timely updates to customer and project team.
  • Conduct regular project meetings with the project team throughout the contract.
  • Conduct regular project meetings with the customer, record and distribute information to the team.
  • Responsible for monitoring and reporting the cost to complete throughout the project.
  • Coordinating and assisting in solving technical problems during and at customer site.
  • Responsible for machine acceptance and sign-off, along with customer milestone invoicing.
  • Work with accounting to help collect/negotiate past due accounts.
  • Generate, handle, and track all Project Engineering Change Orders. ECOs can be generated by other project members. All are submitted to the Project Manager to decide how they are approved, charged to customer, or are otherwise implemented.
  • Complete closed order analysis after final acceptance by the customer at customer site, and generate historical data for lessons learned by all departments.
  • Assist in preparation of technical proposals with Application Engineering and/or Marketing.
  • Identifies new technologies and their possible applications to projects and products.
  • Responsible to execute projects as per project management standard procedures.
  • May be given “special projects” based upon organizational needs.
  • May be responsible for managing the generation of standard solutions to be used by Yaskawa Motoman.
  • Make recommendations to RSMs regarding contractual issues.
  • Maintain highest level of safety and quality standards.
  • Generate and maintain administrative tools to effectively control schedules, margins, utilization, costs, etc., as required.
  • Implement lessons learned/continuous improvement program, and assist in providing cross training to the manufacturing teams.
  • May coordinate and conduct research and development based upon organizational needs.
  • Adhere to all corporate and department ISO policies and procedures to maintain quality standards.
  • Guide the project team to design and develop robotic systems to meet customer specifications and/or project requirements.
  • May conduct or help design tests to assure success during project validation or verification.
  • Facilitate design reviews with customer and/or other departments to ensure sound designs and drawing accuracy.
  • Assist in analyzing test data to assure the design meets functional and performance specifications.
  • Some travel required. Must have valid driver’s license and full coverage automobile insurance.

EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCE

OTHER SKILLS And ABILITIES

Good organizational skills, ability to solve problems, good verbal and written communication skills, and computer literate. Has a strong understanding of robotic systems. Requires a working knowledge of industry standards. Possesses strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills. Must be able to manage several projects at one time. Employee must be able to work with minimal supervision, conferring with supervisor on unusual matters. Has some latitude for un-reviewed action or decision.

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups and managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

Ability to publish technical papers, articles or textbooks. Ability to make presentations and have one or more patents. Able to do quantitative analysis of complex robotic systems. Broad background that shows ability to master new and emerging technologies. Proven track record for developing practical, real world solutions for complex solving.

Work requires individual to devise own methods, to assist with methods used by others, to exercise ingenuity, to analyze situations, and apply judgment required to make decisions of an administrative nature.
