Job description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to lead complex wastewater infrastructure projects from early development through engineering, construction, commissioning, and final turnover.

This role is ideal for a seasoned project professional with a strong understanding of wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) projects, particularly upgrades, expansions, and improvements to existing facilities. The successful candidate will serve as the central point of coordination across engineering, construction, procurement, operations, customers, consultants, and subcontractors.

Beyond managing individual projects, this position will help strengthen project delivery capabilities across the organization by providing technical guidance, mentoring team members, and supporting the continued growth of the wastewater business.

Responsibilities
  • Lead projects throughout the full project lifecycle—from development and contract execution through design, construction, commissioning, and closeout.
  • Own overall project performance, including scope, budget, schedule, quality, risk, and customer satisfaction.
  • Serve as the primary point of coordination between customers, engineering teams, construction teams, subcontractors, consultants, procurement, and internal stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain project execution plans and establish clear objectives, milestones, and responsibilities.
  • Lead project meetings, design reviews, construction coordination, and regular project status updates.
  • Oversee engineering and design activities to ensure project deliverables meet contractual, regulatory, technical, and customer requirements.
  • Coordinate with construction teams to address field issues, schedule constraints, quality concerns, and technical challenges.
  • Manage subcontractor and consultant relationships, including contracts, invoices, change requests, RFIs, submittals, and deliverables.
  • Support procurement of major equipment and coordinate associated supplier agreements.
  • Monitor project financial performance, develop cost forecasts, and identify potential budget and schedule risks.
  • Support preconstruction activities, including scope development, bid packages, proposal evaluations, and contract negotiations.
  • Help develop and execute inspection, testing, startup, and commissioning plans.
  • Support project financing and technical due diligence activities as needed.
  • Drive project closeout and ensure a smooth transition to operations and asset management.
  • Promote strong communication and collaboration across the project team.
  • Mentor and develop project team members while helping strengthen project delivery practices across the organization.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field, or equivalent education and experience.
  • 7+ years of relevant project management experience, preferably with significant wastewater treatment experience.
  • Proven success managing large, complex construction projects in the wastewater or water sector.
  • Strong knowledge of wastewater treatment processes, engineering, construction, and facility upgrades.
  • Experience coordinating engineering consultants, contractors, subcontractors, customers, and internal teams.
  • Strong understanding of project controls, budgeting, scheduling, contracts, change management, and risk.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, organizational, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize, make sound decisions, and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
  • Collaborative leadership style with the ability to work effectively across technical and operational teams.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Experience with co-digestion or related wastewater treatment technologies.
  • Familiarity with Procore or similar construction management platforms.
  • Exposure to project financing, investor diligence, or independent engineering reviews.
Additional Information
  • Up to 25% travel, including occasional overnight stays.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Ability to regularly walk active jobsites and wastewater treatment facilities.
  • Some physical activity, including occasional lifting, may be required.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a high level of accuracy and meeting deadlines.
