Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Engineering, or Chemistry.
  • 10+ years of experience in environmental services, waste management, or related fields.
  • Demonstrated experience managing project budgets, margins, pricing, and financial performance.
  • Strong knowledge of environmental service markets and regional pricing dynamics.
  • Experience with OSHA, EPA, DOT, RCRA and state environmental regulations.

Senior Project Manager
Position Summary

Momentum Environmental provides specialized wasta processing, industrial cleaning, remediation, emergency response services to leading industrial, commercial, utility, and government clients throughout the Northeast.

The Senior Project Manager (SPM) is responsible for the acquisition, development, execution, and financial performance of environmental service and waste processing projects. At Momentum, we treat every project or service engagement as an investment, and the SPM serves as the primary investor. This individual is accountable for identifying opportunities, securing work, managing risk, allocating resources, and delivering profitable outcomes while maintaining Momentum's uncompromising standards for safety, quality, and customer service.

The SPM operates as a seller-doer, developing customer relationships, generating revenue opportunities, preparing proposals, negotiating project scope, and overseeing project execution from initial customer engagement through final invoicing and collection. Working closely with Operations, Health & Safety, Finance, and Executive Leadership, the SPM is responsible for delivering projects safely, on schedule, within budget, and at or above expected margins.

This position reports to the Vice President of Operations or Director of Operations.

Essential Responsibilities
Business Development & Customer Management
  • Serve as a seller-doer by identifying, developing, and securing and performing environmental service and waste processing opportunities by working closely with Momentum's operations to ensure field teams are optimally equipped.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, regulators, consultants, contractors, and industry stakeholders.
  • Develop project scopes, estimates, proposals, and pricing strategies that align with company objectives and financial targets.
  • Identify opportunities within existing accounts to expand services and grow revenue.
  • Maintain routine communication with customers regarding project status, changing conditions, and future opportunities.
  • Support regional sales initiatives and participate in client meetings, presentations, and business development activities.
Project Ownership & Financial Performance
  • Assume full responsibility for the safety, scope, schedule, budget profitability, and overall performance of assigned projects.
  • Manage projects as individual business investments, making informed decisions regarding risk, resource allocation, pricing, and project execution.
  • Monitor project financial performance using Momentum's operational and financial systems.
  • Analyze project costs, productivity, utilization, and profitability on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
  • Implement and maintain pricing discipline and financial controls.
  • Forecast revenue, costs, labor requirements, equipment utilization, and project margins.
  • Identify project risks and proactively implement corrective actions.
Operations & Execution
  • Coordinate with Operations to ensure projects are appropriately staffed and equipped with labor, equipment, materials, subcontractors, and transportation resources.
  • Provide technical guidance and project leadership for waste management, industrial cleaning, emergency response, waste processing, remediation, and environmental service projects.
  • Work collaboratively with field personnel and operational leadership to drive efficiency, quality, and customer satisfaction.
  • Ensure project documentation, reporting, permitting, manifests, waste profiles, and regulatory records are completed accurately and timely.
  • Coordinate daily with operations management regarding project status, priorities, risks, and resource requirements.
Health, Safety & Compliance
  • Promote and actively participate in Momentum's Health and Safety culture.
  • Ensure all work is conducted in compliance with company policies, OSHA requirements, DOT regulations, EPA regulations, NYSDEC requirements, and applicable customer standards.
  • Lead by example in maintaining a safety-first environment for employees, customers, and subcontractors.
  • Participate in incident reviews, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Strategic Growth & Leadership
  • Participate in mergers and acquisitions activities, including operational due diligence, market assessments, integration planning, and post-acquisition implementation.
  • Support recruiting, hiring, mentoring, and development of employees across the organization.
  • Contribute to greenfield expansion efforts, new service line development, and operational improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate across departments and locations to improve safety, quality, logistics, operational efficiency, and customer experience.
  • Help build and reinforce a high-performance culture focused on accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

Core Competencies & Qualifications
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Engineering, Chemistry, or a related technical discipline.
  • 10+ years of experience in environmental services, waste management, industrial services, remediation, or a related industry.
  • Demonstrated experience managing project budgets, margins, pricing, and financial performance.
  • Strong knowledge of environmental service markets, customer needs, and regional pricing dynamics.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, DOT, RCRA, and applicable state environmental regulations.
  • Strong analytical and financial acumen with the ability to make data-driven business decisions.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams, and SharePoint.
Preferred
  • Existing relationships with industrial, utility, remediation, engineering, municipal, or waste management customers.
  • Experience in emergency response, industrial cleaning, waste processing, remediation, transportation, or treatment operations.
  • Experience integrating acquisitions, opening new locations, or launching new service offerings.
  • OSHA HAZWOPER 40-Hour Certification.
  • Working knowledge of waste characterization, treatment technologies, transportation regulations, and disposal facility operations.
