Job summary

Pickett seeks a Senior Project Manager to lead and deliver complex engineering programs for electric utilities, with responsibility for scope, schedule, budget, quality, and client satisfaction. You will guide multidisciplinary teams, mentor less senior staff, and support business development to expand services with current and new clients.

The role requires 10+ years of experience, a Civil/Mechanical engineering degree, and PE or PMP certification.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Mechanical Engineering (preferred).
  • 10+ years of experience managing engineering or infrastructure projects (required).
  • Experience managing large or complex projects for electric utilities.
  • PE registration or PMP certification required; utility/engineering consulting background preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a portfolio of engineering projects for electric utilities.
  • Provide leadership for project execution including scope, schedule, budget, quality, and safety.
  • Oversee financial performance and profitability; develop recovery plans as needed.
  • Serve as primary client relationship manager and identify opportunities for additional services.
  • Coordinate engineering leads, project teams, and functional managers for timely deliverables.
  • Develop and review project financial reports, schedules, and resource forecasts.
  • Report performance, status, and risks to clients and leadership.
  • Mentor project managers, engineers, and staff to build capabilities.
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams and promote cross-functional collaboration.
  • Support development of PM processes, tools, and best practices; assist with RFPs.
  • Collaborate with Marketing/BD to grow existing relationships and pursue new opportunities.
  • Present technical and project performance reports to clients and leadership.
  • Work with Accounting on invoicing and accounts receivable; monitor project financials.

About the Role

As a Senior Project Manager, you will lead the successful execution of complex engineering projects and programs for public-owned and investor-owned electric utilities. This role is responsible for overall project delivery, financial performance, and client satisfaction across a portfolio of projects.

You will serve as a key client interface, provide leadership to multidisciplinary teams, mentor junior project managers, and support business development efforts to expand our services with existing and new clients.

What You Will Be Doing
  • Lead and manage a portfolio of engineering projects for public-owned and investor-owned electric utilities
  • Provide overall leadership for project execution including scope, schedule, budget, quality, and safety performance
  • Oversee financial performance and profitability of assigned projects and develop recovery plans when needed to maintain project performance
  • Serve as primary client relationship manager, maintaining strong client partnerships and identifying opportunities for additional services
  • Lead coordination between engineering leads, project teams, and functional managers to ensure timely delivery of project deliverables
  • Develop and review project financial reports, schedules, and resource forecasts in collaboration with Accounting and Project Controls
  • Report project performance, financial status, schedule, and risks to both clients and internal leadership
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to project managers, engineers, and project staff, supporting their professional development and project management capabilities
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams and promote collaboration across engineering, project controls, accounting, and support functions
  • Support the development and improvement of project management processes, tools, and best practices across the organization
  • Assist with and lead proposal development, including scope definition, scheduling, and cost estimates for requests for proposal (RFP) responses
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Business Development teams to expand existing client relationships and identify new opportunities
  • Prepare and present technical and project performance reports to clients and internal leadership
  • Work with Accounting and Project Controls on client invoicing, project financial tracking, and accounts receivable

What You Bring
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Mechanical, or related engineering discipline (preferred)
  • 10+ years of experience managing engineering or infrastructure projects (required)
  • Demonstrated experience managing large or complex projects for electric utilities
  • PE registration or Project Management Professional (PMP) certification (required)
  • Previous project management experience with a utility or engineering consulting firm strongly preferred
  • Experience in transmission line design and management (preferred)
  • Strong leadership, communication, and client relationship management skills
  • Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and multidisciplinary teams
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to mentor and develop junior staff
  • Some travel is required
