Job summary

Walters Group in Austin, Texas is seeking a Project Manager to lead structural steel erection projects onsite. You will own planning, execution, financial performance, and successful delivery, working closely with the VP of Operations, superintendents, engineering, safety, quality, and finance to guide projects from handoff to closeout.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Engineering, or related field required.
• 7+ years of progressively responsible project management experience in structural steel, industrial, or heavy commercial construction.
• Strong understanding of contracts, scheduling, budgeting, and cost control.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and project management software.
• Experience managing structural steel erection projects is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead assigned projects from turnover through final completion.
• Develop and maintain relationships with customers and project stakeholders.
• Coordinate the efforts of field operations, engineering, safety, quality, and accounting.
• Establish clear project objectives and communicate expectations to the project team.
• Manage project budgets and cost forecasts.
• Monitor labor productivity, equipment utilization, and project profitability.
• Prepare monthly cost projections and financial forecasts.
• Review and approve project expenditures within authority.
• Identify financial risks and implement corrective actions.
• Understand contract requirements and ensure compliance.
• Manage subcontract agreements and supplier commitments.
• Identify and negotiate change orders.
• Manage RFIs, submittals, and contract correspondence.
• Maintain accurate project documentation.
• Develop execution plans in collaboration with Operations.
• Coordinate engineering deliverables and procurement activities.
• Monitor schedule performance and implement recovery plans.
• Coordinate manpower with General Superintendents.
• Serve as the primary commercial contact for projects.
• Build trust through proactive communication and problem-solving.
• Conduct regular project review meetings with customers.
• Foster long-term customer relationships that lead to repeat business.
• Identify project risks early and develop mitigation strategies.
• Escalate significant issues when needed.
• Promote a culture of safety and quality.
• Lead and mentor project team members.
• Support development of Assistant PMs and Project Engineers.
