Job Description: Senior Project Engineer

About the Role

Our New England Civil Infrastructure Group is recognized for career development, training, and mentoring, working on diverse civil, environmental, and transportation projects. We seek a talented Senior Project Engineer to support our Water, Wastewater, and Water Resources practice in the New England area, providing technical support for utility design projects, including treatment plants, pump/booster stations, and water distribution systems.

Responsibilities
  • Assist Project Managers in planning, coordinating, and executing projects of varying sizes.
  • Prepare technical memoranda, reports, proposals, and contract scopes of work.
  • Manage project budgets and monitor performance regularly.
  • Negotiate scopes, fees, and schedules with sub-consultants under guidance.
  • Develop technical solutions and assist in all project scope aspects.
  • Ensure project schedules and budgets are met, reporting on progress and scope changes.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers for project management experience and financial performance.
  • Serve as Technical Lead for complex projects, coordinating among disciplines and subcontractors.
  • Supervise and train junior staff, providing guidance and performance feedback.
  • Develop technical approaches, schedules, and fee estimates for proposals.
  • Maintain quality control through design reviews and calculations.
  • Participate in client meetings, public hearings, and deliver oral presentations.
  • Lead construction administration tasks, including progress meetings, submittal reviews, and project closeout.
  • Provide project updates and demonstrate commitment to quality, client satisfaction, and profitability.
  • Understand contract terms, professional liability, and report concerns.
  • Participate in professional associations and conferences, presenting technical papers.
  • Identify potential claims, document issues, and report to Project Manager.
  • May manage a direct report, overseeing workload, expenses, and career development.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering; 6+ years of experience, or Master's with 5 years.
  • Registered Professional Engineer, or working towards licensure within one year.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, leadership ability, and a valid driver's license.

Preferred Skills
  • BA/BS in Civil Engineering or related; Master's preferred.
  • 8-10 years of related experience.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, AutoCAD, Civil 3D.
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience with Deltek Vision is a plus.
