Job summary

HDR is seeking a Senior Project Engineer to lead complex water infrastructure projects, delivering designs, studies, and coordination across multi‑discipline teams. The role emphasizes independent decision making, client collaboration, and applying rigorous quality standards to ensure successful outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent field.
  • Minimum of 10 years experience with water infrastructure and water‑related facilities or systems.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license recognized by the licensing board for the position location.
  • Ability to make independent decisions and be accountable for results.
  • Strong technical background in water solutions and leading multi‑disciplinary, geographically diverse teams.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, digital delivery/design platforms, numerical modeling and simulation tools.

Responsibilities

  • Independently create detailed designs, plans, specifications for water facilities and infrastructure projects.
  • Manage and coordinate multi‑discipline teams from multiple locations to deliver high‑quality results.
  • Guide planning and execution of complex studies, simulations, and plans for water infrastructure.
  • Specify engineering work, plan tasks, and work with clients to ensure outstanding delivery.
  • Establish new quality standards and value engineering solutions.
  • Conduct quality control reviews of deliverables.
  • Serve as a technical expert in water systems and water infrastructure.
  • Serve as a project manager on water projects as needed.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

Senior Project Engineer Responsibilities
  • Independently create detailed designs, plans, specifications for water facilities and infrastructure projects
  • Manage and coordinate multi-discipline teams from separate locations to produce high‑level, high‑quality deliverables
  • Guide the planning and execution of complex and multi‑disciplinary studies, simulations, and plans for water infrastructure projects
  • Take responsibility for engineering/process design, project coordination, determining and writing engineering specifications, planning work, establishing appropriate design methods, report preparation and coordination, equipment sizing and selection, and working directly with our Clients to provide an outstanding delivery experience
  • Establish new quality standards and value engineering solutions
  • Conduct quality control reviews of deliverables
  • Serve as a technical expert with recognized authority in the area of water systems and water infrastructure
  • Serve as a project manager on water projects as needed
  • Perform other duties as needed
Preferred Qualifications
  • Preference is given to candidates local to the New England area
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent field
  • A minimum of 10 years experience with water infrastructure and water‑related facilities or systems
  • Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered (e.g., Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license)
  • Ability to make independent decisions and be accountable for the results
  • Strong technical background and experience in guiding and formulating water solutions and managing multi‑disciplinary, geographically diverse teams
  • Microsoft Office, digital delivery and design platforms, numerical modeling and simulation platforms, workflow augmentation and quality facilitation platforms
  • Project Engineering and Project Management experience is necessary
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee‑owned culture is a must

The expected compensation range for this position depends upon skills, experience, education and geographical location: Boston, MA – $136,836–$195,480; Providence, RI – $119,732–$171,045; Bedford, NH – $119,732–$171,045; Rocky Hill, CT – $125,433–$179,190; Portland, ME – $108,329–$154,755.
