Job summary

City of Spokane is seeking an advanced-level engineering professional to serve as a Senior Engineer, providing project management, oversight, and guidance across water, sewer, streets, and other departments. The role involves leading staff and consultants in engineering design, construction management, and compliance with city standards.

The position requires a Washington PE license and a strong track record in public infrastructure projects, along with budget planning and contract

Qualifications

• Requires PE license in Washington or ability to obtain within six months of appointment.
• Six years of professional engineering experience; two years as a licensed PE.
• Valid Washington driver’s license to maintain throughout employment.
• Equivalency and related backgrounds welcome.

Responsibilities

• Participates in development of goals, objectives, policies, and procedures for services and programs.
• Monitors activities, identifies opportunities for improvement, and implements changes.
• Performs advanced technical calculations; develops construction documents and estimates; ensures compliance with laws and city policies.
• Reviews staff and consultant designs for conformity with City standards and regulations.
• Manages budgets, tracks funding, and monitors expenditures; prepares detailed cost estimates.
• Provides guidance to staff and consultants on project feasibility and execution; ensures safety rules are followed.
• Acts as project manager: plans, coordinates site visits, oversees design, construction, and implementation; coordinates with other divisions and outside agencies.
• Prepares and evaluates proposals; negotiates contracts and administers contracts; processes change orders.
