Job description

Senior Project Engineer / Project Manager
Chemical Manufacturing Facility | Full-Time | Immediate Start | Assignment Through 2028

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Project Engineer / Project Manager to lead multiple capital projects at a major chemical manufacturing facility. This is not a traditional construction management role. The successful candidate will serve as the owner's representative and be responsible for managing projects from concept through completion, making critical decisions, overseeing contractors, and driving execution across multiple engineering disciplines.

Projects include the replacement of AFFF foam fire suppression systems and the design and implementation of firewater containment modifications across multiple plant facilities.
PLEASE NO RECRUITING OR STAFFING AGENCIES!

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage multiple concurrent capital projects ranging from $1M to $7M in value.
  • Lead projects involving mechanical, piping, civil, structural, architectural, and electrical scopes.

  • Hire and manage engineering firms, contractors, and construction teams.
  • Generate purchase orders, manage project expenditures, and approve contractor invoices.
  • Coordinate activities across operations, maintenance, engineering, EHS, and project stakeholders.
  • Drive project decisions and hold contractors and vendors accountable for performance, quality, safety, and schedule.
  • Manage design reviews, construction activities, commissioning, and project closeout.
  • Maintain a significant on-site presence at the plant throughout project execution.
Required Qualifications
  • 10+ years of industrial project engineering or project management experience.
  • Proven success managing $1M-$7M capital projects in chemical, petrochemical, refining, power generation, manufacturing, or similar industrial environments.
  • Experience leading projects involving multiple engineering disciplines simultaneously.
  • Strong contractor management and owner's representative experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, meetings, and stakeholders at the same time.
  • Strong business judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to identify project risks, challenge assumptions, and recognize when information from contractors or vendors does not align with project objectives.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Chemical manufacturing, refinery, or heavy industrial plant experience.
  • Experience managing projects in active operating facilities.
  • Familiarity with fire protection, environmental, containment, utility, or infrastructure projects.
What Will Make You Successful

The ideal candidate is an organized, hands-on project leader who can independently manage complex industrial projects, confidently make decisions, control budgets, and effectively coordinate diverse teams and contractors. You are known for delivering projects safely, on schedule, and within budget while maintaining strong relationships and holding others accountable.

Education, fire protection certifications, Procore, and Primavera experience are not required. Proven project execution experience in an industrial environment is far more important.

Compensation: Competitive and commensurate with experience ($70-90 per hour). Candidates with a demonstrated track record of successfully delivering industrial capital projects will be strongly preferred.
