Job summary

The Ruhlin Company is seeking a Senior Project Engineer for its Industrial Division in Columbus, OH. This role partners with the Project Manager and Superintendent to drive project profitability, schedule adherence, and safety compliance from our Columbus office.

The ideal candidate will mentor junior staff, manage submittals, and lead risk mitigation while coordinating with owners, architects, and engineers to keep projects on track and within budget.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Project Manager in preparing monthly margin reports and presenting insights to Senior Management.
  • Monitor the prevailing wage reporting for subcontractors and self-perform activities.
  • Utilize quantity tracking logs for owner quantity payment.
  • Analyze and communicate the impact of quantity variances on overall project profitability.
  • Track and understand pending change orders in relation to cost expenditures.
  • Perform all responsibilities of Project Engineer and Lead Project Engineer, with autonomy and leadership.
  • Develop and manage comprehensive submittal logs aligned with the project baseline schedule.
  • Ensure timely review and submission of shop drawings and engineering submittals from the owner.
  • Draft and review Construction Method Reports in collaboration with project team members.
  • Lead punch list coordination with owners, architects, and engineers; delegate tasks and track closeout.
  • Oversee rental and owned equipment to ensure cost-effective utilization with Superintendent and shop.
  • Monitor and manage equipment charges, including idle time.
  • Coordinate material deliveries and work activities to maintain the project schedule in partnership with the Superintendent.
  • Train and mentor junior staff.

Senior Project Engineer- Industrial Division

The Ruhlin Company seeks to hire a Senior Project Engineer for its Industrial Division. This position will be based out of Ruhlin's Columbus office.

Summary: Serves as strategic partner to the Project Manager and Superintendent, contributing beyond administrative tasks to provide operational leadership and financial insight. Responsible for maintaining project profitability and schedule performance, ensuring safety compliance, managing revenue variances, and mentoring junior staff. Your role requires proactively identifying risks and implementing corrective actions before they affect project outcomes.

Responsibilities:

Cost/Revenue
  • Support the Project Manager in preparing monthly margin reports and presenting insights to Senior Management.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with prevailing wage reporting for subcontractors and self-perform activities.
  • Utilize quantity tracking logs for owner quantity payment.
  • Analyze and communicate the impact of quantity variances on overall project profitability.
  • Track and understand pending change orders in relation to cost expenditures.
General
  • Perform all responsibilities of Project Engineer and Lead Project Engineer, but with more autonomy and leadership.
  • Understand technical performance and notice requirements for document control.
  • Develop and manage comprehensive submittal logs aligned with the project baseline schedule.
  • Ensure timely review and submission of shop drawings and engineering submittals from the owner.
  • Draft and review of Construction Method Reports in collaboration with project team members.
  • Lead punch list coordination with owners, architects, and engineers; delegate tasks and track closeout.
  • Oversee rental and owned equipment to ensure cost-effective utilization in coordination with the Superintendent and shop.
  • Monitor and manage equipment charges, including idle time.
  • Coordinate material deliveries and work activities to maintain the project schedule in partnership with the Superintendent.
  • Train and mentor junior staff (Project Engineer, Lead Project Engineer), helping to develop their technical and professional skills.
Safety
  • Assist in the coordination of specialty safety equipment needs (e.g., PAPRS, wash stations, lead trailers, trench boxes).
  • Support compliance with OSHA and owner requirements in partnership with the Superintendent.
  • Conduct weekly job-site safety inspections and ensure timely corrective actions.
  • Promote and reinforce the company’s safety culture.
