Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Independently determines project scope, develops a preliminary plan of investigation and determines project specifications by analyzing client input and data.
• Coordinates testing activities at client sites and with laboratory staff.
• Communicates with clients to discuss technical issues, explain UL procedures, convey project costs and timelines.
• Addresses client concerns and resolves complex issues.
• Provides technical assistance related to product inspection and follow-up services.
• Establishes test programs and UL requirements by reviewing files and manufacturer information.
• Notifies clients of non-compliance or changes in project scope or specifications.
• Coordinates laboratory activities and prepares data sheets and instructions for technicians.
• Acts as Project Handler of record and Reviewer of record per qualification.
• Reports project status and results to clients and prepares follow-up information pages.
• Incorporates continuous improvement concepts into all duties.
• Develops UL testing requirements beyond existing standards as needed.
• Represents UL on technical committees or industry events when assigned.
• Trains staff and engineers as appropriate.
• Adheres to UL Code of Conduct and security practices.

Job Description

This is a hybrid role requiring 3 days onsite in Northbrook, IL

Responsibilities

• Independently determines project scope, develops a preliminary plan of investigation, and determines project specifications such as cost, time, and sample requirements by analyzing client input, available supplemental data, and product construction.
• Projects may include limited travel to conduct or witness tests at client sites. Initiates communication with clients to promote and explain the benefits of new and existing services.
• Ability to manage projects within business expectations/metrics
• Communicates with clients to discuss technical issues, explain UL procedures and requirements, convey project cost, and negotiate completion date and sample requirements.
• Acts to address client concerns and to resolve complex client issues.
• Provides technical assistance to clients in reference to product inspection and follow-up services.
• Establishes appropriate test programs by reviewing files and manufacturer's information, examining samples, and applying UL requirements.
• Determines areas in which the product is not in compliance with UL requirements or of any changes in project scope or specifications and notifies client.
• Coordinates complex laboratory activities by preparing data sheets and instructions to technicians and by establishing completion dates.
• Serves as Project Handler of record and signs as Reviewer of record as assigned based on qualification.
• Communicates project status and results to clients through frequent contact and by preparing reports.
• Prepares Follow-Up Service Procedures and information pages.
• Integrates continuous improvement concepts and techniques into all aspects of the job.
• Resolves complex engineering issues associated with UL's Surveillance Program by analyzing and reporting on the acceptability of the variations.
• Develops UL requirements for testing products beyond the scope of existing standards, or those involving unique features requiring frequent use of independent judgment.
• Develops special test methods and test equipment.
• May represent UL on technical committees and/or industry-related functions such as seminars and trade shows.
• Trains office, field, and/or laboratory staff and entry level engineers as appropriate.
• Provides technical assistance in several product categories, operations or systems to laboratory and/or field staff.
• Read and follow the Underwriters Laboratories Code of Conduct and follow all physical and digital security practices.
• Performs other duties as directed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering required. Mechanical, Chemical, or Materials Engineering preferred.
• 5+ years of experience in the Testing , Inspection, and Certification (TIC) industry or materials manufacturing/testing highly preferred.
• Communication skills and the ability to interact with internal and external teams.
• Ability to stay organized when handling multiple priorities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

What we offer:

Total Rewards: We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career. The estimatedsalary range for this position is $178,000-105,000 and is based on multiple factors, including job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, as well as other factors. This position is eligible for annual bonus compensation with a target payout of 10% of the base salary.

• This position also provides health benefits such as medical, dental and vision; wellness benefits such as mental and financial health; and retirement savings (401K) commensurate with the standard rewards offered in each individual location or country.
• We also provide full-time employees with paid time off including vacation (15 days), holiday including floating holidays (12 days) and sick time off (72 hours).
