Job description

Position Overview

Senior Project Engineer - Bridge Design at Waggoner Engineering, Baton Rouge, LA. The role may be remote for the right candidate. Responsibilities include providing quality planning, design, and technical assistance to the Discipline Manager and other members of the design team in delivering projects within budgetary and time constraints.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Perform engineering analysis and design for bridges and related structures, including new construction and rehabilitation.
  • Conduct assessment and evaluation of existing bridge structural conditions and develop recommended remedial measures.
  • Perform as‑design, as‑built, and condition bridge load ratings in accordance with governing AASHTO and client specifications.
  • Prepare construction plans, specifications, and contract documents for contracting and bidding of construction projects.
  • Perform construction phase engineering, including periodic on‑site reviews, in collaboration with the Construction Services team.
  • Understand typical bridge constructability areas of focus, including multi‑phased construction, transportation, and erection of various bridge components.
  • Maintain and document written and verbal communications with clients throughout project development and completion.
  • Conduct project status reviews with project manager and team members, checking accuracy of work completed, and monitor timeliness of project completion.
  • Attend meetings on project management.
  • Assist project managers with administrative duties concerning completion of assigned projects, including review of schedules, scopes, and budgets.
  • Assist project manager in preparation of engineering studies and reports.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to members of the project team.
  • Prepare project designs using sound engineering principles, engineering software and tools.
  • Assist in preparation of contract documents and technical specifications.
  • Assist project manager in assuring quality control procedures are performed.
  • Maintain responsibility for accuracy of each segment of the work and the final check of the work.
  • Maintain responsibility for adherence to applicable codes.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering is required.
  • Minimum of 8 years of bridge and related structural design experience, including 5+ years of technical production of engineering projects involving planning, design, and evaluation of bridges.
  • Extensive knowledge of the LADOTD Bridge Design policies, procedures, and memoranda is preferred.
  • Ability to prepare engineering records and write concise technical reports.
Certifications / Registrations
  • Licensed as a Professional Engineer (PE) in Louisiana is required.
  • Licensure as a PE or ability to obtain such in contiguous states is desired.
  • Certifications applicable to civil engineering, structural, and bridge design and inspection are desired.
Other Knowledge and Skills
  • Proficient in design using Bentley LEAP or other LADOTD approved software.
  • Microstation and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D experience is preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project is required.
  • Knowledge of design, online reports, and databases is preferred.
  • Superior communication skills and in‑depth knowledge of company products and operations.
