Job summary

GAI Consultants, Inc. seeks a senior engineer to lead municipal water and wastewater projects in the Pennsylvania/Mid-Atlantic region. You will guide design, manage multidisciplinary teams, and directly engage clients from concept to construction.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • P.E. license and a valid driver's license.
  • Eight or more years of relevant water/wastewater municipal infrastructure experience.
  • Experience with water and sewer system design, permitting, and bid document prep.

Responsibilities

  • Lead projects from concept through construction for water and wastewater systems.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary range: $120,000 to $150,000 per year. This range is a good-faith estimate at the time of posting. Actual compensation will depend on factors such as education, qualifications, relevant experience, licensure, and current skills.

What You Will Do
Lead Project Delivery and Design
  • Direct solutions for water distribution systems, wastewater collection systems, wastewater conveyance, pump stations, lift stations, storage facilities, water treatment facilities, wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs), rehabilitation programs, and municipal utility infrastructure.
  • Prepare and oversee calculations, reports, technical specifications, construction documents, bid packages, alternatives analyses, and cost estimates.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams and deliver projects from concept through construction.
Manage Projects and Serve Clients
  • Manage scope, schedule, budget, quality, risk, contractual requirements, and financial performance.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to municipal and utility clients through meetings, site visits, stakeholder engagement, and responsive project delivery.
  • Support proposals, project planning, Capital Improvement Program development, and client growth strategies.
Develop People and the Practice
  • Mentor junior engineers and technical staff while promoting collaboration, accountability, and technical excellence.
  • Help expand services with existing clients and build relationships with prospective clients.
  • Contribute ideas that improve project delivery, team capabilities, and the continued growth of GAI's Water & Wastewater practice.
What You Bring
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license and a valid driver's license.
  • Eight or more years of relevant water, wastewater, municipal infrastructure, utility infrastructure, civil engineering, or environmental engineering experience.
  • Experience with water and sewer system design or rehabilitation, utility permitting and regulatory coordination, construction administration or field support, and preparation of plans, specifications, and bid documents.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience with municipal water systems, wastewater treatment facilities, water distribution systems, sewer collection systems, utility infrastructure, Capital Improvement Programs (CIPs), and construction administration is highly valued.
  • Pump stations, treatment facilities, distribution systems, collection systems, storage, and conveyance infrastructure.
  • Leadership of multidisciplinary engineering teams and oversight of project delivery.
  • Client relationship management, proposal development, and business development.
Travel

Local travel within Western Pennsylvania is expected, generally 10% to 15%. Occasional travel within the Mid-Atlantic may be required for project meetings and site visits.
