Job summary

OmniForce Solutions in Houston, TX is seeking a Senior Project Engineer to lead overhead transmission and distribution line projects. You will guide technical design, manage scope, schedule, and budget, and collaborate with Sales Engineers and field teams to ensure compliant, reliable energy delivery.

In this role you mentor junior engineers, review drawings and models, and coordinate with clients. The position requires PE licensure and strong knowledge of industry standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil/Structural Engineering.
  • 8+ years of Transmission & Distribution line design experience.
  • P.E. License and knowledge of T&D design standards (NESC, RUS, IEEE, ASCE).
  • Proficiency with PLS-CADD/PLS-POLE; experience with SPIDA, O-Calc is a plus.

Responsibilities

Job description

JOB OVERVIEW:

Reporting to the Manager of Engineering and Design, the Senior Project Engineer will be responsible for being a technical and project lead on the design and execution of overhead transmission and distribution line projects. This role combines technical leadership and project management to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with utility standards and regulatory requirements. The Senior Project Engineer will serve as a primary technical resource for Sales Engineers, Project Engineers, and/or Sales Managers, and ensure high-quality deliverables that support safe and reliable energy delivery.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Project & Technical Leadership
  • Design and review designs of overhead transmission and distribution line projects (typically 4kV–345kV).
  • Provide technical oversight and guidance to engineering/design/drafting teams, ensuring adherence to industry codes, standards, and client requirements.
  • Ability to serve as the primary technical contact for utility clients, consultants, and project stakeholders when needed.
  • Experience with structural calculations, including sag-tension analysis, pole/structure loading, and clearance verification us PLS Pole and PLS CADD Software.
  • Ensure compliance with NESC, RUS, IEEE, ASCE, and utility-specific standards(knowledge of CSA a plus).
  • Review and approve drawings, models, and specifications prepared by the team.
  • Manage multiple projects from concept through construction support.
  • Collaborate with clients, Sales Engineers, Sales Managers, and Operations teams to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Consistently communicate and record project progress through all stages.
  • Support stakeholder engagement efforts as needed.
Quality, Safety & Compliance
  • Ensure engineering deliverables meet quality standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Promote safety and risk management in all project phases.
  • Support audits, inspections, and client reviews.
Team Development
  • Mentor junior engineers and designers, providing training in line design principles and tools.
  • Support a culture of accountability, technical excellence, and continuous improvement.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil/Structural Engineering.
  • 8+ Years of experience in T&D (Transmission and Distribution) line design.
  • Strong knowledge of T&D design standards (NESC, RUS, IEEE, ASCE, state and utility-specific standards; CSA is a plus).
  • Proficiency in PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and related design tools (experience with SPIDA, Pole Foreman, O-Calc a plus) required.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) License
  • Experience with large-scale capital programs and asset lifecycle management preferred (PMP Certification or equivalent project training a bonus).
  • Experience working within a utility and/or EPC preferred.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to solve problems, propose conceptual solutions, and characterize/quantify potential risks effectively and creatively.
  • Proven communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to work well in cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to interface with key customer technical contacts to successfully complete project analysis asks and answer customer inquiries on design and field applications.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers to operate computers, equipment, and tools.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, twisting, and occasional kneeling or crouching, as required.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 20 pounds.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and work safely in the assigned work environment.
  • Meet deadlines while maintaining a commitment to a high level of accuracy and quality in all aspects of work.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • On-site office-based (Houston, TX)
  • Occasional travel for field trips to support installations, attend team meetings and/or trainings, and/or trade shows/technical conferences.
