Job summary

Clayco is seeking a Senior Project Engineer to support design-build projects from design through closeout. You may run smaller projects, mentor staff, and advance toward a Project Manager role with emphasis on cost control, scheduling, subcontractor management and owner coordination.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree in construction/engineering, 3–7 years of experience on $5M+ projects, and the ability to work on site with physical demands; travel nationwide is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field is required.
• 3–7 years of experience managing construction projects (>$5M).
• Experience leading a project management team is preferred.
• Willingness to walk job sites and handle physical tasks.

Responsibilities

• Participate with project team in development of a Project Chart of Accounts.
• Coordinate with Project Superintendent on site logistics planning.
• Assist Superintendent in subcontractor management.
• Oversee submittal, change order, and pay request process.
• Assist in generation of project costs and Job Cost Reports.
• Contribute to quarterly Total Cost Projection reports.
• Monitor and record staff training and project labor.
• Report and track equipment needs.
• Assist in bidding projects during preconstruction.
• Implement safety, EEO, and affirmative Action programs.
• Participate in the project’s quality process.
• Contribute to schedule and project close-out processes.

The Role We Want You For

The Senior Project Engineer will provide high level support to the project staff to ensure quality and timely execution of design-build projects from design to completion. These phases include: Scheduling, subcontractor buyout, cost reporting, preparation of subcontracts, the handling of owner coordination, construction quality oversight, and project closeout. You may run smaller projects on your own, mentor Project Engineers, Summer Construction Interns, and take on the additional responsibilities to become a Project Manager.

The Specifics of the Role

• Participate with project team and preconstruction services in development of a Project Chart of Accounts.
• Coordinate with Project Superintendent in development of a project site logistics plan.
• Assist Superintendent in the management of subcontractors.
• Maintain understanding of the Clayco/Owner contract.
• Oversee the submittal, change order, and pay request process.
• Assist in generation of project costs and Job Cost Report.
• Contribute to the analyzing and forecast of quarterly Total Cost Projection reports.
• Monitor and record training of all staff personnel.
• Monitor project labor.
• Report and track equipment needs.
• Assist preconstruction services in bidding projects.

• Participate in the project’s quality process.
• Contribute to schedule and project close-out processes.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture or related.
• 3-7 years of experience managing construction projects ($5+ million) ideally design‑build.
• Demonstrated knowledge of construction principles, practices, and technology.
• Previous experience leading a successful project management team.
• Ability to walk a job site, climb ladders, and scale multi‑floor scaffolding.
• Ability to lift objects of at least 50 lbs.

• The salary range for this position considers a wide range of factors in making compensation decisions including but not limited to: Education, qualifications, skills, training, experience, certifications, internal equity, and location. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for the role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. The Clayco Nationwide salary range for this position is approximately $80,000 - $90,000 +/- annually (not adjusted for location).
