Job summary

American Water is seeking a Senior, Project Delivery Engineer to lead major water and wastewater capital projects from scope through construction. The role involves budgeting, planning, design, and coordinating with consultants, contractors, and CAD operators to ensure on-time, on-budget delivery.

Qualified candidates hold a PE license and a Bachelor’s degree in engineering with 4+ years of project delivery experience, plus knowledge of hydraulic modeling.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering; advanced degree preferred.
• 4+ years of experience in engineering design, planning, construction, project delivery and/or project management.
• Water system and wastewater collection system hydraulic modeling experience is a plus.
• Valid Driver’s License and PE certification are required or preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage water and wastewater engineering projects from inception to completion, ensuring they are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget.
• Establish project budget and scope.
• Develop detailed project plans, designs, and specifications for water and wastewater infrastructure projects, including pipelines, treatment plants, and pumping stations.
• Serve as a competent technical resource on Water and Wastewater System matters to support operations and business needs.
• Assist with multiple small to medium size projects and perform varied engineering assignments in planning, design or construction.
• Develop technical information and concepts into feasible engineering approaches.
• Support the selection of consulting and construction organizations for projects using negotiation or competitive selection processes.

Job Title: Senior, Project Delivery Engineer

Primary Role

The Senior, Project Delivery Engineer is responsible for various project delivery focused engineering tasks for water and wastewater utility system capital projects, such as scope and budget confirmation, design, project management, and construction phase activities. Responsibilities may also include technical partnering and supervision over consulting engineers, contractors, technicians, and/or CAD operators.

Key Accountabilities

• Lead and manage water and wastewater engineering projects from inception to completion, ensuring they are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget.
• Establish project budget and scope.
• Develop detailed project plans, designs, and specifications for water and wastewater infrastructure projects, including pipelines, treatment plants, and pumping stations.
• Ability to serve as a competent technical resource on Water and Wastewater System matters as needed to support operational and business needs.
• Assist with multiple small to medium size projects and perform varied engineering assignments associated with planning, design or construction.

Knowledge

• Demonstrated knowledge of engineering design theory and practice.
• Familiarity with project management, construction and contract management, water and wastewater facilities, and utility operations.
• Knowledge of current trends in water quality and treatment and other aspects of the water industry.
• Familiarity with environmental regulatory requirements, and trends impacting the water industry.

Certifications & License

• Valid Driver’s License
• Professional Engineer (PE) required

Travel Requirements

• Up to 20%, as required.

Work Environment

Primarily in the office with occasional work in the field at water/wastewater facilities to conduct site investigations and participate in on-site project kick-off/review meetings.
