Job description

Employment Type: Full-Time

About Us: We are an established, design-driven architecture and planning practice delivering complex, high-profile projects throughout California and nationally. Our portfolio spans federal, commercial, mixed-use, civic, residential, education, and other sophisticated project environments where thoughtful design, technical excellence, and collaboration are equally important.

  • Our San Diego studio offers the resources, project diversity, and stability of a highly respected multidisciplinary practice while maintaining a collaborative environment where senior architects have meaningful ownership, client visibility, and opportunities for continued advancement.

The Position: We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Architect to join our San Diego studio, with a primary focus on Federal, Commercial, and Mixed-Use projects.

  • This is a pivotal senior-level technical and project leadership position for a California-licensed architect who can successfully guide complex projects from design development through construction documentation, permitting, agency review, and construction administration.
  • You will work closely with project managers, designers, clients, consultants, engineers, and internal teams while taking ownership of technical execution, documentation quality, consultant coordination, code compliance, and overall architectural delivery.
What You’ll Do
  • Lead architectural project delivery across Federal, Commercial, Mixed-Use, and other complex project types
  • Guide projects through design development, construction documentation, permitting, bidding, and construction administration
  • Lead project documentation and coordination within Revit-based BIM environments
  • Serve as a senior technical resource to project teams throughout the project lifecycle
  • Develop, coordinate, and review architectural drawings, specifications, details, and construction documents
  • Lead consultant coordination across structural, MEP, civil, landscape, and specialty disciplines
  • Manage technical coordination between design intent and constructability
  • Oversee quality assurance and quality control of architectural documentation
  • Ensure project documents comply with applicable building codes, accessibility requirements, jurisdictional standards, and client requirements
  • Support projects requiring heightened documentation, security, technical, or governmental standards
  • Participate in client presentations, project meetings, agency coordination, and consultant meetings
  • Coordinate permitting and entitlement requirements with applicable agencies and jurisdictions
  • Review RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, change documentation, and other construction-phase deliverables
  • Conduct site observations and assist with resolving field and construction-related issues
  • Support project schedules, staffing plans, work plans, and deliverable milestones
  • Mentor Project Architects, Job Captains, Designers, and emerging architectural professionals
  • Collaborate closely with Project Managers and senior studio leadership on project performance
  • Build strong relationships with clients, consultants, contractors, and internal project teams
Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture from an accredited program
  • 10+ years of professional architectural experience, with significant experience operating at the Senior Project Architect level
  • Active CA Registered Architecture Licensure is mandatory (CA / NCARB)
  • Strong project experience within Federal, Commercial, Mixed-Use, Civic, Institutional, or similarly complex architectural environments
  • Federal project experience with government agencies, federal facilities, or highly regulated project environments strongly preferred
  • Proven experience leading technically complex projects through documentation and construction
  • Advanced Revit proficiency required
  • Strong hands-on experience leading and coordinating large, complex architectural models and construction document sets in Revit
  • Ability to review, troubleshoot, and guide project teams on Revit standards, model coordination, documentation quality, and BIM workflows
  • Strong understanding of architectural detailing, building systems, construction methods, and specifications
  • Advanced understanding of building codes, accessibility standards, and California permitting requirements
  • Strong consultant and multidisciplinary coordination experience
  • Experience reviewing and managing comprehensive construction document packages
  • Experience with Bluebeam, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, and related architectural/project management software
  • Excellent communication, organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and project deadlines
  • Experience mentoring and guiding architectural production teams
  • Strong client-facing capabilities and professional presentation skills
  • LEED, WELL, DBIA, or other relevant professional credentials are a plus
What’s Offered
  • Highly Competitive Base Salary: $120,000-150,000 (DOE)
  • Annual performance-based bonus opportunities
  • Generous PTO, Vacation, Sick & Holiday Programs
  • Professional development and continuing education support
  • Exposure to sophisticated Federal, Commercial, Mixed-Use, and multidisciplinary projects
  • Strong long-term project pipeline and organizational stability
  • Collaborative studio environment with access to experienced technical and design leadership
  • Opportunity to mentor emerging professionals and influence project delivery standards
  • Clear opportunities for continued advancement into Senior Leadership, Associate, Principal, and Studio Leadership-level roles
Why This Opportunity Stands Out:
  • This is an excellent opportunity for an accomplished California-licensed architect who wants to combine technical leadership, advanced Revit expertise, project ownership, and design collaboration while working across a diverse portfolio of complex projects.
  • Rather than being limited to a narrow production role, you’ll have meaningful influence over how projects are modeled, documented, coordinated, permitted, and constructed while working alongside experienced design and project leadership.
  • For architects with strong Federal, Commercial, or Mixed-Use expertise seeking greater visibility and long-term growth in the San Diego market, this position offers an attractive combination of project quality, stability, flexibility, and advancement potential.
