Job summary

Cypress Creek Energy seeks a Senior Project Accountant to manage all project-level accounting, produce quarterly financial statements and monthly reports, and perform full cycle accounting for assigned entities. This role collaborates with the Accounting Manager, handles GL, treasury, reconciliations, lease accounting, project costs, and creates Excel schedules.

Experience with NetSuite is required; CPA is a plus. Hybrid in Durham, NC with a three-day in-office schedule.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required (or CPA exam eligibility based on completed coursework).
  • Minimum of 4 years of progressively responsible accounting experience.
  • Experience with NetSuite, specifically fixed assets and multi-entity accounting entries.
  • CPA a plus, not required.
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills (SUMIFS, VLOOKUP, pivot tables).

Responsibilities

  • Monthly oversight of automated depreciation journals in NetSuite.
  • Record ASC 842 lease adoption journals and maintain LeaseQuery records.
  • Record development project costs and collaborate with the project execution team to confirm actual costs.
  • Prepare reconciliations for project and fixed asset accounts.
  • Reconcile inter-company activity including payables, receivables, and equity.
  • Prepare schedules to support quarterly and annual audited financial statements and notes.
  • Provide supporting work papers for auditors.
  • Prepare and record complex journal entries for project work in progress, fixed assets, cash, prepaids, leases, and investments.
  • Identify processes suitable for automation and continuous improvement.
  • Maintain desktop procedures and update them regularly.

Job description

Overview

This Senior Project Accountant will handle all the accounting functions for various Project-level entities and will produce accurate and timely quarterly financial statements and monthly financial reports as required. The hire should be able to perform full cycle accounting functions within their assigned entities. These functions include maintenance of accounts receivable, management of cash payments, lease accounting, debt service, financial account reconciliations and various other cash and reporting activities.

The Senior Project Accountant will work closely with Accounting Manager to effectively manage the accounting and report on various projects to investors and management. This role involves applying a broad range of accounting including general ledger, treasury operations, account reconciliations, and the creation of excel schedules. The Senior Project Accountant will have ability to help develop and implement policies, procedures, and other best practices with the assistance of the accounting manager. There are no direct reports with this role.

The Senior Project Accountant must be comfortable working independently and working in a cross‑functional team environment as this role will collaborate with various departments across the company.

Responsibilities
  • Monthly oversight of automated depreciation journals in NetSuite
  • Record ASC 842 lease adoption journals and maintain oversight of LeaseQuery records
  • Record development project costs and collaborate with the project execution team to confirm actual costs.
  • Prepare reconciliations for project and fixed asset related accounts
  • Reconcile inter‑company activity, including inter‑company payables, receivables, investment in subsidiaries, and equity.
  • Prepare schedules to support quarterly and annual audited financial statements and disclosure notes
  • Provide supporting work papers as requested by the independent auditors
  • Prepare supporting documents and record complex journal entries in areas such as, but not limited to project work in progress, fixed assets, cash, prepaids, accrued expenses, leases, various operating expenses and revenues, investment and equity
  • Seek continuous improvement of assigned tasks and identify processes suitable for automation.
  • Maintain desktop procedures for assigned tasks and periodically update
  • Handles various other duties as assigned by the Accounting Manager
Education & Experience Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required (or CPA exam eligibility based on completed coursework)
  • Minimum of 4 years of progressively responsible accounting experience
  • Experience with NetSuite, specifically with fixed assets and multi‑entity accounting entries
  • CPA a plus, not required
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills, including SUMIFS, VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, and other core functions
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Big Four audit experience is a plus
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, planning, analysis, and organizational skills
  • Strong leadership, appraisal, relationship management, and problem solving abilities
  • Sound judgment and discretion in decision making
  • Skilled at multitasking with close attention to detail

Location

The preferred location for this role is for our office in Durham, NC. Our team operates on a hybrid schedule, with in‑office schedule of three days per week.

Compensation

The salary range for the position is $80,000-$110,000 plus bonus and benefits. Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location.
